Draw poker question, Dave Moore, 6. Dec 2003 22:37

I'm normally a hold 'em player, in fact, that's all I play. I'm going home to visit for a week over Christmas, and some old high school buddies know I'm a poker player and asked me if I wanted to sit in with them while I was in. The thing is they only play five card draw and stud games. I feel okay about the stud games--not great, but I figure I can manage. It's the draw games that get me. I don't get to see any cards but my own, and I really have no idea how to play that.

For any of you who play draw poker, any little tips I can use? I know you can't teach me to be a great draw player, but any tid bits I can take to the table would be helpful.

Thanks!

Dave-

I don't play much either, and hopefully you will get a response from Mike Caro, as he's the real draw expert, but I will tell you what little I do know:

Draw is a game of Aces... the Ace is where the real power lies in a draw game. Be aware of position, don't open with less than Aces in late position, don't open with less than Aces-up in mid/early position.

That's about the extent of what I know about draw. :) Wish I could give you more! Good luck, let us know how it comes out.
