| Me and my pops headed up to AC for my birthday on Wed and stayed at the Trop the whole time. Overall, its a very nice place, nothing to complain about except for the lack of comps handed out (they really stick to the points on your card business and won't throw you any bones). I went to the poker room Wed night for a couple of hours. Sat down at a 2-4 HE table and while I was waiting for the blinds to come around I saw a guy beside me get his pocket aces mucked by the dealer. Needles to say I got a first hand lession to always remember to put a chip on top of your cards. The oddest part was how little he complained or tryed to get his cards back. Full table, I saw seat 4, seats 1, 2, and 3 were all brand new players who watched the WSOP to learn the game. Played tight aggressive and it worked well, although the cards just weren't coming that night. I got some money in when my pocket Qs beat one of the new guys A-T on a Txxxx board, but got my pocket Ks cracked when a guy called to the river with A-6 and got his A. New players get up to leave, so I figure I should get some sleep. Thursday I spend most of the day in the poker room, started on a 2-4 HE table with the senior section. Anything that anyone tells you about the softness of play at the Trop is correct. Calling station after calling station after calling station, and the ones that know what they are doing will definatly let you know it within half an hour of sitting down. I was going along well for a few hours until the Omaha8 game I had signed up for when I walked in finally got enough players to go. I got up and there were still only one other person at the O8 table, but we both enjoy the game so much we decide to just play heads up until more people join. After half an hour or so the table is about half full and the games start going well. I stay in with hands that I probably shouldn't and get some beating put on me, but luckily I wasn't the greenest O8 player at the table, so I stay afloat for a while. A key hand is when I have 67xx and the board is 55889. The guy I'm heads up with sat down recently and hasn't really played that much and keeps betting. I put him on an 8 or a 5 that he THINKS is a full house because he is used to HE, so I bet back at him. A huge pot gets pushed to me when I ended up being right and his imagined full house is really just trip 8s. This was one of a few times that I had to explain to the dealer why I won, and how to play Omaha. The other noted example was when I had to physically hold the other players hands away from the chips as the dealer tryed to give the guy half of the pot (when I had won both the high and the low) not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES. He didn't realize that 23467 beats A2368. Good times at the O8 table ended after about two hours when people kept slowly drifting away to HE tables. When it was just me and another guy, we decided to just play 4-8 HE heads up to kill time before the limit tourney. We got exactly two hands in before the table was completely full. I decided to stay at the now full 4-8 table til the tourney rolled around, and it proved to be a good call as the 4-8 players are just as soft as the 2-4 players. I was able to bluff a couple of medium pots and took down a huge pot when I kept JT on the button and flopped 9QK. The only other guy in the pot after my check raises kept betting into me, but his two pair or trips never got improved and I turned over the nuts to his very obvious chagrin. I ended up after the table games on Thursday up ~$120 playing mainly 2-4 all day, so I was pretty happy. The tourney went horrible, as all of my premium hands got cracked. First hand pocket Ts get cracked by AQ flopping a Q. Every time I got AJ-AK I got beaten by two pair or trips. In round 4 I get AT in late position and bet it when its called around to me, 4 call. Flop comes 995, all check. Turn comes T. All check to me, I bet, guy behind my check-raises, all fold to me. I figure worst case Ive got him tied, so I reraise, he reraises me, I figure I'm probably beat but I had next to nothing in chips left, so I'm all in and he turns over presto for the flopped slow played full house. Ouch. Ah well, even with all the rebuys I ended up +~$50 for the poker playing, combined with my 4 of a kind jackpot in let it ride ($1900 win on a $31 bet), I was very happy with the trip. Props: -The Trops outstanding pit crews and poker floor managers. These guys know what they are doing and are very helpful and professional. They really helped make me feel comfortable and maximized my enjoyment. -The Poker room. Fairly large with plenty of room at the tables and NO SMOKING. A great place to play, I only wish it was closer to home. -Ceaser the let it ride dealer who looked at my three 3s, looked at the last community card, then left it face down and winked at me before turning over the last 3. (Most amusing exchange: after they watched the security film or whatever and called down to the floor to say everything was cool, I was like "So can I touch the money now? What should I do?" The guy next to me goes "Look up and smile".) Slops: -The very few poker dealers who had no clue what they were doing. These were a very rare breed, and as long as you protect your hand and don't release your winning hand til the pot gets pushed to you, your pretty safe. -The Trops comp program. After telling them probably...oh....50 times that I was headed back up there and wanted a couple of comped rooms so that I can lose my winnings back to them, the only thing I was told was I "qualified" for a reduced rate (which, by the way, is worse than some of their internet rates). That and I had to play 12 hours of poker for a free salad. -Dennis, the annoying table game player who sat at the let it ride, boston 5, and three card poker tables for (at least) 50 HOURS STRAIGHT doing nothing but smoking pack after pack and gulping down coffees....and yelling, hooting, hollaring, and clapping every time he got a pair or better. Same clothes + chain smoking + yelling every 5 minutes = every time he sat down at a table, it cleared within 5 minutes, and every time he got up, it filled back up after 5 minutes. | ||

| I was at the trop last week, and while the players were TERRIBLE, I did notice that the dealers were pretty terrrible too. At least some of them. One time some old calling station to my left had a showdown with some obnoxious kid. The kid was loud, and obviously must have watch the WSOP a couple days ago cause he thought he was the shit. You know the type. The board read JAT52 and the stupid freagin kid flips up J7o (and no, he wasn't the blinds) and the old guy (who was honestly worse then the other kid) showed J9. The dealer was spliting the pot, and I intervened to explain to the dealer that the kid lost. The kid got all pissed off at me saying,"What are you, the game monitor or something?! Why'd you say someting!?" I was thinking, cause I've known you for 10 minutes and hate you already (plus the old guy will probably dump it back in the pot next chance he gets), but I just smiled. The dealer, a younger guy, actually said to me, "You shouldn't have said anything...". Wow... It was kinda funny tho, watching the kid insult the other players plays, when he'd flip up 67o UTG. I remember seeing these two retarded kids making fun of each other once, back in elementry school. Seriously, if you're going to make fun of someone for not being able to tie their shoes, at least make sure your mom didn't put on your velcro sneakers for you that morning. | ||

| Hahahahaha, yeah. After an hour or so of O8 we decided to make it a kill game ($30 kill), and I swear every single hand that didn't get split, the old guy at the end would yell "KILL THATS A KILL POT NOW" and the dealer would be like "um...thats not even $20 sir". Some people just seem to lose their sense/manners/self-control at the table. | ||
