| What is the "standard" for tipping on a live tournament win, or even a tournament cash finish for that matter? | ||

| Here was my reply to someone else, awhile back: "Every cardroom is different. Some cardrooms charge so much juice for their tourneys that the tipping is super-minimal. For instance, the Trop in AC would have a $20, with $10 juice!!! I never really saw any good tipping there, because the juice was so high. Lots of cardrooms charge about 10% juice. Sometimes they have an additional, optional dealers add-on. This means that the dealers are getting XX amount of money from each player, whether they cash or not. I think this is a pretty good idea. It evens things out for tourneys, instead of being so unpredictable. At the Belle, there is no juice. We don't pay the house anything, and in fact, they add $500 to the tourney prize pool out of the bad beat jackpot drop. Due to these benefits, we tend to tip more. The last time I looked it up, 3-5% is standard for tournament tipping. Players can tip either more or less, depending on the quality of the dealers. Sometimes players are treated so badly, that they will tip less than that. At the Belle, we tend to tip up to 10%, since we are not charged juice and there is the $500 added money. The dealers are very good to the players, in general, and the tournament director is sweet. Also, at the Belle, when players make a deal that gives one player a lot more than he or she deserves, it kind of becomes an unwritten rule that the player who got a "good deal," does a great portion of the tipping. In this case, the guy just laid down $15 and walked away. Maybe he didn't know, and it definitely should have been explained to him before the deal was accepted, but the other two players (locals) most certainly expected him to tip more than $15, which is 1.6%. Like I said though, all of this is general, there is no rule written in stone. He didn't make some kind of mortal faux pas or anything, especially if he didn't know, but the plain truth is, probably no one at the Belle is going to offer him an advantageous deal again."
