What is the rule????, mambojim, 6. Dec 2003 01:54

Ok, need a ruling on this hand. Two players in on the showdown. Board is 9,K,A,K,3. Player 1 Has A,6. Player 2 has A,9. Who wins the pot? One argument was that it was chop chop. The other argument was that it came down to the kickers. What's the ruling? What would be the official ruling in a tourney, or a casino. Thanks for the help....

It's a split pot, both players have two pair, Aces and Kings, 9 high.

Ok, now why would it be chop-chop when through numerous online research and book rules state:

TWO PAIR. The highest Pair determines the winner if two players (or more) have Two Pair. If both high Pairs are the same, then the better remaining pair determines the winner. For instance, 9-9-7-7-4 beats 9-9-6-6-A. If both Pairs tie, then the "unpaired card determines the winner. "

Just trying to clarify the rules, I appreciate all your guys help.

In your first example, they both have a pair of 9's. So now they go to the next pair to decide, so the one with 7's beats the one with 6's. However if they both have the exact same 2 pairs, they now use the 5th card to determine the winner...HOWEVER, this 5th card is the highest card from either your hand OR the board. In your original example, both players have a 9, the fact that one player has a 9 in his hand, and the other one uses the 9 on the board makes no difference...

Does that clear it up?

9 K A K 3

Player A: A 6
Player B: A 9

Player A's best 5 card hand: AAKK9
Player B's best 5 card hand: AAKK9

just because B has a 9 doesn't mean anything because player A uses the 9 nine from the board. And player B can't use 6 cards for 3 pair so the nine in his hand really doesn't mean anything.

no one ever said, that online casinos explain the rules properly.

they say "called all in" when actually someone "raised" all in.

But, in this case, it's correct that it's a split pot

Player 2 wins with 3 pairs. No?

Seriously... split pot.
