If you are fairly conservative a good move might be to advertise otherwise, make a few bluffs and show, if you show a couple times you can count on people not trusting your raises (when you raise with a strong hand) and will call you down with weaker than normal hands. I found this very useful as when I started playing cash games, I had a rep of being very conservative, and if it came to a showdown I won about 85% of the time so I was called less often, so I made a few big bluffs and showed. Also you can make information calls at the river if they are cheap, which might send the impression that you will call with anything... for example

You: K Q

Him: J 10

Board: J 10 8 4 2

If you call here you can get information on what types of hands the guy might play and raise with, and at the same time you will send a false image that you are a calling station, so when the time comes and he makes middle pair he will bet bet bet thinking you will just call call call.

Just some thoughts.

If you feel you are too conservative and losing because of it, it is likely that you are either playing too predictable or are missing too many value bets.

To erase predictability you should make some variance plays against tight players. By that, I mean you should get aggressive with unusual hands against tight players who will respect your aggression. That way you will show your aware opponents that you vary your play while picking up some pots.

Variance plays will help you get better value out of your hands since your opponents will no longer be able to read you as effectively. You will also need to bet more hands as you will get called more often. Don't get frustrated if you bet hands in which you are not the best...that is to be expected. As long as you are the favorite when called you should bet your hands.

Life is Good :-)

Vary your aggression based on position. You should be playing many more hands from the button than your are from UTG. Most low limit players (not sure if this is where you are playing) don't pick up on that fact. They see you raise with 89s on the button and then think you are doing the same when you raise with KK or AA UTG. This works the other way around also....when they see you raise from UTG with AA and KK, your button raises put more fear into the others than they should.

Basically it is not what hands to play but where to play them from....

Your problem is actually quite common (good tournament player sucks at cash games).
Think you yourself has diagnosed your main problems: think you're beat a lot (and probably fold too many winners or profitable draws) and too timid in your betting.
While that mindset (folding in marginal situations and avoiding the value bets that may put you all in) may be appropriate for tourneys, since the marginal value of each chip varies depending on how many you have, that mindset becomes very costly in a cash game.
Key difference in a cash game is (aside from no limit vs fixed limits) is that all chips are worth the same at all times. Don't really know if anyone can offer you some simple advice that'll overnight turn your thinking around and make you a better cash game player. But you do need to take more risks in a cash game. Bet those marginal situations, and don't be afraid to make the bad call.
