How on earth do you play this hand? The chances are you'll not make a set on the flop and then you're in real danger of overplaying the hand even if a couple of overcards have appeared on the flop. It seems people struggle to laydown high pairs, AK etc. and call all the way to the river when most of the time it's not a correct play.

Oh how I love my pocket jacks. First off, they are my lucky hand and I hardly ever lose with my jacks, plus they are easy to lay down if you are faced with a problem such as overcards. I mix up my play with them, sometimes raise preflop, sometimes limp in. Depends on the feeling and I try to look at others to see if I can get a read on their cards by how they act. Like you said you probably won't catch a set but it might help to raise most of the time to get the crappy cards from outdrawing you. When I limp in, luckily a lot of time I do flop a set and I can play it very easily. It is tough to play these as with Qs and 10s but just remember that if someone calls your raise, they are most likely holding an ace bc people love aces for some ungodly reason even if there kicker sucks or face cards. So be careful if the flop produces an ace, king, or queen and be prepared to lay them down. Hope this helps.

I look at JJ as nothing special at all unless you catch a set. If you are playing JJ and any over cards come on the flop, see how much it may cost you to see the turn, if its cheap, then maybe you get your 3rd jack then, otherwise just lay them down.

The best is when you get your set on the flop, and there are a couple of over cards there as well, then you can really do well.

I ll say it all depends on diffrent things, limit or NL? stacksize, position and so on...

Here's funny example from a session of mine today,

Holding JJ UTG raising to few dollars in a NL100 game, three callers, clop comes J63 rainbow, i raise from first seat x2 my preflop bet, 2nd player move all in with 30 bucks or so, 3rd calls, i go all in with my 80 or so stack (had all covered), 3rd calls.... turns is X and river a 6...

I have FH and 3rd player shows pocket 66, ie four of a kind...
(2nd player had QJos)

Guess it wasnt my day...
