proper dealer verbalization, ADAM THE EXPERT, 3. Dec 2003 11:21

OK once and for all, I'd like to notify the world of things that

they are saying that are Dead wrong.

Now that I'm enjoying my "15 minutes" I want to use it, to put

a stop to the horrible, completely incorrect use of the term

"COMPLETE" to describe when the opening bet in seven

stud, is brought up to the full bet.

This term, was started by a nasty little man, who ran a dealing

school, accross the street from the Bicycle Casino, in

Bell gardens, California, about 5 or 6 years ago.

Note: A professional dealer, is supposed to say the

EXACTLY correct words, to describe the betting action.

As any long-term dealer knows, COMPLETE is only used

when a player bets all in, for less than the full bet, yet

the amount is not big enough to raise, and must be

COMPLETED before anone can raise.

Example: 3-6 stud, in a house where any amount above

half a bet, can be Raised.

A player on the six dollar betting round, goes all in for $2.

The next player puts in $6 and the dealer announces

"complete" or "complete to six"

The forced opening bet in stud, is NOT an incomplete bet,

as the only incomplete bets, are when a player is all in.

Since it is not INCOMPLETE, it cannot be COMPLETED.

Yet, since the increasing of the opening bet, to the full bet,

does not count towards one of the three raises that most

houses allow, the word RAISE, is also not correct.

So, what should the dealer say? Experience pros know.

there are several acceptable choices: "Three, straight"

"three, now" "make it three" or even "three"

BUT NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS: "complete to three"

This is driving me crazy!!! The tournament software

"the clock" many online sites. etc. Are using the

nasty man's "complete" in a situation where it is completely

INCORRECT.

You may think I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but

there are those of us who are very serious about the

occupation of professional poker dealing, and one of

the most important functions of a dealer, is to use the EXACT

words, the describe the situation.

Every time I here the word "complete" I start looking around,

to see who's all in.

Casinos, Dealer Coordinators,

everyone, You are saying the wrong word.

Please stop it.

Since Adam the Expert is the number one authority in the

world, in proper dealer communication, I will have more

on theis subject.

There are dealers out there, who are altering the action,

with TOTALLY INNAPROPRIATE WORDING.

Long-term dealers, Back me up, dudes!!!

I agree with Alan, it is very frustrating when dealers do not perform their duties in accordance with the properly accepted standards. Please dealers and poker room managers please listen to the #1 authority in the world when making any decisions concerning poker. The fact that you have not heard of the Alan in inconsequential as he has stated many times he is the #1 aurority in the world in all things poker, and besides he is giving you all of this advice for free.

Andy,

I am sorry my post offended you. It was completely unitential and I certainly wouldn't want to mess with the #1 or #2 authority of most things in poker, regardless of whether or not anyone has heard of you. I wish you nothing but the best in your efforts to find someone willing to stake you, as well as your efforts to sell your book which hasn't been written I would hate to incur the wrath of you or your mountain of fans such as Peach.

I also apologize for getting your name wrong Andy its been a challenge I've dealt with my entire life. As to not offend you further I will refer to you with the abbreviation you use on your post. However as i am sure you all people will understand I refrain from using unecessary caps or puncation.

Again, ate I am sorry and hope that we can put this disagreement behind us.

Actually, I think Adam has really toned things down a lot lately and is making an effort to try and fit in. His typing isn't completely in CAPS anymore and I have notice a few attempts at being polite and trying not to offend.

"I'M TRYING NOT TO BE INSULTING, BUT GET REAL, PLEASE"

This was sort of an attempt even though it kind of missed...

Intentionally aggrovating him, while it might be fun, doesn't really solve anything. You are just going to make his head explode.

He still has a way to go but you can tell he genuinely wants to help people. He has admitted to having a condition in the past for which I believe he may have been hospitalized. His social and political skills may be a little lacking but I think he has at least shown some eagerness to try and fit in.

We shouldn't put up with crap from him. When he says something mean he should be put in line but when he is trying his best to be nice, we should encourage him to continue to do that. Remember he's not quite on the same frequency as the rest of us...

I have to agree with Palinya. ATE's posts have become much better. It is easier to read through his juvenile antics lately and see some of the ideas he presents. He also has become less offensive.

Bottom line is you both need to just get over each other and move on, or take it someplace else. No one but you two care.

Adam and Blade, perhaps you should both read the front page of the forum again.

Don't get so mad, Adam. You hsould be flattered to have a stalker. How empty must this person's life be if he or she has time to follow you around the message board criticizing everything you say?

You may come off as arrogant but Blade is coming off as a pure jackass. At least you try to pack some information into your posts.

You know, Adam may be a little quirky, but I think that many of you could actually benefit from his poker advice. While I don't agree with everything he's written regarding poker strategy, his advice, on the whole, is quite a bit better than so much of the weak tight (fold top pair on the flop cause even if you're ahead, you may be beaten on the river) advice I see here.
I actually think Adam is a winning player, unlike the people giving the weak-tight advice.
