| Saturday, November 15, 2003 The "Buttmunch" There is a guy who plays at the Belle sometimes. I am told he is a used car salesman, but that might have been said in jest, because of his personality. He is in his late twenties, I would imagine. He always has dress clothes on, so I assume he comes into the poker room right after work. When he walks into the poker room, he is polite and friendly. He doesn't go out of his way to greet others, but he does nod and acknowledge the locals. When he starts playing, he is loose and aggressive. He bluffs too much in games where bluffing doesn't work. He plays too many hands. He isn't a great player, but he keeps to himself and doesn't seem to bother anyone. Usually this continues through the first or second Corona. Then he turns into "buttmunch," my nickname for him. Suddenly he is sarcastic. He is condescending. He sneers at the locals like we are scum. He makes remarks that are out of line. Someone usually approaches the desk and complains about him. The floorman rolls his eyes. This has been done many times before. Sometimes he is warned to tone it down, sometimes not. By the time the fifth beer hits his bloodstream, he is commenting on most every hand, whether he is involved or not. He has something mean, biting and nasty to say about anyone and everyone. If he is told to keep it down, he asserts that his "fifth amendment rights" are being violated, LOL. I am no political scholar, but what does the fifth amendment have to do with free speech (first amendment)? Most people laugh at him. He is either tolerated because he's become such a fish, or players become silent and passive, letting him roll over them. Some, like me, complain, but nothing much is ever done. His behavior has been tolerated since I began playing at the Colorado Belle, in August. To my knowledge he has never been ejected from the poker room. Perhaps he is a friend or relative of someone "high up." Maybe he gave them a great deal on a car, lol. For whatever reason, he is still there, wasting his life in bottle after bottle of Corona beer. Drinking is for losers, my opinion. Drink and play poker if you want, but I assert that if you do, you are a loser and there is a bigger problem in your life than alcohol will ever fix. | I don't know if I'd go as far as saying that "drinking is for losers" It's true that your poker play will not be as sharp if you drink and most serious poker players would never consider drinking while playing. But many people can drink in a social setting and it doesn't turn them into asses. There is nothing wrong with drinking socially if you can handle it and not turn into a jerk. Just don't expect to win much at poker while drinking. | ||

| Don't you just adore AC? I love it. I wish I could take living on the east coast. I miss the AC cardrooms :( Don't worry, the "shakes" will go away, in time. Then you'll wish you had them back when you need them! LOL. <<on 3. Dec 2003 09:27 Eman wrote: > im not an experienced B&M player, but ive recently played in AC a bunch of times. | 1 drink probably won't do anything to hurt your game. 8 on the other hand... | ||

| But getting wasted is so much fun! The other night, I got so trashed, it was, like, way cool. I got up the next morning with this massive headache and my head in a pile of my own vomit, and I had no idea what happened the night before! Wow, how cool is that! I don't remember anything, but I must of had soooo much fun considering I had no money left! Plus, there was some naked chick in my bed I didn't know. She was butt ugly, but who cares! Then, my girlfriend walked in my apartment to find us there. Realizing how cool I am because I was so trashed, we both immediately burst into laughter! Can't wait till next weekend! (<--detect sarcasm here) Anyhoo.... When I first started reading your post, I thought I knew who you were talking about. But the "Buttmunch" I played with was probably in his late 40s/early 50s. Guy would not shut up the whole time. Had to of been a salesman of some type, but the annoying kind dressed in clothing he bought in 1982; the same day he got that hair cut. He had a comment for everything. Once, after I bet three dollars on the flop, he started making fun of my "high roller bet." I could tell I wasn't the only one annoyed by him. For all the comments he was making, he was sure losing money fast by seeing almost every flop, then folding after betting on the turn. I'm sure you've seen this idiot too. | ||

| I do not drink a drop while playing. The night before Thanksgiving I had my first experience playing with a loudmouth drunk at the table. It was awful. I only stayed because he turned the whole table into a go fish game. Unfortunately I couldn't get any cards and got to watch the few other solid players at the table take everyone else for some big bucks. I couldn't believe the casino was allowing this "buttmunch" to act like he was, yelling at the top of his lungs, distracting the whole card room, taunting players, holding up the game, never knowing when the bet was to him because he was too busy telling jokes or talking drunkly to himself. This went on for an hour and a half. With that said, I do enjoy a drink after a long day and I enjoy imbibing with my friends. Frankly, I don't appreciate your sarcastic condescention, danimales. If you do not drink I respect that, by the same token please respect my choice to drink without making that choice sound idiotic and stupid. I've met some of the best friends of my life over drinks, and a few of my favorite memories occured under the influence...I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I just merely wanted to point out that obnoxious and disrespectful behavior while drinking is one thing, having a little fun and getting sauced with your friends (and paying for it the next day) is another. | ||

| Latest, breaking news on the "Buttmunch" !!! The "Buttmunch" has causes so many problems at the Belle, and I guess he went a little overboard over Thanksgiving week while we were in Vegas. According to the floorman, he got into an argument with a dealer. Now, why they wouldn't protect *US*, the players, against this guy is beyond me, and a different topic altogether, but anyway, he picked a fight with a dealer while drunk. She is a female dealer (he always targets females because he is a bully and a mean drunk). I guess he was way, WAY, out of line this time, because they cut him off! They had a little "talk" with him (like I said, maybe he gave someone a good deal on a car, because he should have been banned long ago). He played in our hold'em tourney last night and was drinking cup after cup of coffee, insisting on the large styrofoam cups, lol. He looked decidedly unhappy. Oh, but the sweet sound of silence...I never heard a peep from him all night, and he was playing badly enough to give ME his tourney money (that story is for later). After he busted out of the tourney, he "quietly" got up and left. Sober, silent, blessed. Felicia :) My Poker Journal: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FeliciaLee | ||

| I would feel more intoxicated after that much coffee than I would after a few corona's. How could anyone drink coffee like water all night? I would be shaking my legs, bouncing in my chair, and bending my cards, talking like I am on cocaine. | ||

| You must not have ever been in the Navy lol. I go thru at least 2 full pots of coffee, the resturaunt size Bunns, every day at work and another pot at home. I have been doing this for over 30 years. It doesn't keep me up at nites but it sure helps when I get a nite call (i'm on 24/7 call) and need a few minutes of instant alertness until I can fully awaken. If the price of coffee keeps going up thanks to this store clerk strike cocaine might start looking attractive. Jim | ||
