21st birthday in Reno. Where should I go?, bigtizzle, 3. Dec 2003 00:51 | ||

| OK guys - The big one is here: 21 years old. My mom was nice enough to book me a weekend at the Sands in Reno. However, I don't have the slightest clue where the best place to play poker is. I know my hotel doesn't have a card room, and I'm wondering if I would be better off going to a casino, or checking out a local card room. By the way, I'm not a newbie to live games. In fact, I haven't played online poker in about 5 months. I go to the Indian casino near my city, and on occasion I'll go to the local card room here in Sacramento and hope not to get carded. I haven't been caught yet, and after Saturday it won't matter. Anyway, thanks in advance to anyone that can give me a good idea of the best spots to play some cards. -Big Todd | ||

| OK, TODD, FIRST OFF, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT, NOT ,NOT CONTINUE TO PLAY AT THE SAME SACRAMENTO CARDROOM, AFTER THE "MAGIC DAY" THE OWNER OF THE "LUCKY DERBY" IS A TOUGH VIETNAM VET, WHO WENT THROUGH INCREDIBLE WORK, AND HELL, TO GET TO BE A SUCCESS, AND HE IS NOT GOING TO BE APPRECIATIVE, THAT YOU WERE PLAYING THERE, UNDER AGE. SAME THING FOR THE PHOENIX. BOTH THOSE PLACES, ARE MULTI MILLION DOLLAR BUSINESSES, AND WILL NOT TAKE KINDLY TO YOU HAVING PLAYED UNDERAGE. IF YOU WERE PLAYING AT THE CAPITOL CASINO, SAME THING, MAYBE A LITTLE LESS, AS THEY DON'T HAVE PAI GOW AND BLACKJACK. ADAM THE EXPERT IS NOT AN EXPERT ON THE LAW, BUT IT'S QUITE POSSIBLE THAT THEY COULD STILL MAKE QUITE A BIT OF TROUBLE FOR YOU, AFTER THE FACT. NOW, AS FAR AS RENO IS CONCERNED, YOU HAVE SEVERAL CHOICES. IF YOU LIKE OMAHA, THEN YOU ARE LIMITED TO THE CAL NEVA, AS THEY ARE THE ONLY CLUB IN TOWN, THAT SPREADS IT. THE EL DERADO, HAS HOLD EM, STUD, AND SOMETIMES A GREAT LIVE NO LIMIT GAME. FOR HIGHER LIMIT HOLD EM, THE PEPPERMILL, IS KING. THE RENO HILTON, HAS A DECENT ROOM FOR THE BEST BURGER IN THE WORLD, CHECK OUT "THE NUGGET DINER" ON VIRGINA STREET, NEAR FITZGERALD'S I'M QUITE SURPRISED THAT THE SECURITY AND THE SACRAMENTO ESTABLISHMENTS, HAS NOT "CARDED" YOU YET. PLEASE LISTEN TO ADAM THE EXPERT'S ADVICE. THEY WILL NOT JUST "LAUGH IN OFF" THAT YOU WERE PLAYING UNDERAGE. BY THE WAY, THE BAD NEWS FOR YOU IS: ADAM THE EXPERT IS MOVING TO SACRAMENTO, GAME JUST GOT TOUGHER. A.T.E. | ||

| Adam - I can understand why you would be surprised that I haven't been carded, because you've never seen me. There's a reason I sign my posts Big Todd. While my wang is impressive in and of itself, I'm 6'8", 250 lbs. Getting carded has never really been an issue, anywhere. But now that I'm 21, I really don't have to worry about it. Thanks a bunch for the great suggestions though. - Big Todd | ||

| The Reno Hilton, Peppermill and Cal-Neva all have decent card rooms. Have fun and let us know how you do. | ||

| Todd, Where do you typically play? Where do you live? I am in Davis. I'm assuming the Indian Casino you reference is Cache Creek? I have never been carded in Sacto, either. Adam, it sounds like you know the area pretty well, or at least the cardrooms. When will I get to play with you? -Dom | ||

| Ah, Davis!! Wonderful producer, of fresh local lamb!! In 1998 I was hired to cook a big birthday dinner, and they wanted rack of lamb. Thanks to the local supplier out of Davis, Adam the Expert was able to obtain suffiecient quantities of Lamb Rib Chops, for about half the normal price. Skadet, I currently live in Alaska, but am leaving soon. Going to Reno, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Tunica-Mississippi, and then resettling in Sacramento, Unless my brother is offered a permanent job in Mississippi, (after dealing the tournament) I will not be playing in Sacramento, as the games there, all fall into the category of (raker) instead of poker!! RAKER=any game, where the amount of rake coming off the table, precludes long-term profit. Besides, they are all "poodle size" games, with only one 9-18 game, the rest 4-8. Adam the Expert will be traveling to Reno, when I want to play a live game. Which of course, won't be often. Internet poker, is a miricle sent from Heaven, to reward Adam the Expert, for being a nice guy. SORRY "BRICK AND MORTOR CASINOS, Y'ALL ARE OBSELETE!!! (EXCEPT FOR 20-40 AND UP) A.T.E | ||

| WELL, B T WE WERE PLANNING ON MOVING BACK TO THE SACRAMENTO (SEE, I CAN SPELL IT OUT, WHY CAN'T EVERYONE ELSE) BUT, MY ABILITY HAS FALLEN COMPLETLY APART. SO, I'M GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO A STATE INSTITUTIONALIZED HOME, FOR THE MENTALLY ILL, IF I CAN GET IN WITH MY BROTHER'S HELP. IF NOT, I'LL BE IN THE "LOAVES AND FISHES" HOMELESS SHELTER, IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO, OR (HOPEFULLY) DEAD. REMEMBER EVERYONE, I NEVER, NEVER NEVER SAID THAT I WAS A GREAT PLAYER. JUST THE SECOND BEST AUTHORITY AND TEACHER OF POKER, IN THE WORLD. NOTE TO EVERYONE: IF YOU ARE NOT 100% IN CONTROL OF YOUR EMOTIONS, AND ARE CAPABLE OF DEALING WITH GREAT FRUSTRATION, PLEASE DON'T EVEN THINK OF PLAYING POKER. PLAYING CORRECTLY, IS ONE OF THE EASIEST THINGS IN THE WORLD TO LEARN, BUT ONE OF THE HARDEST TO DO. IF ANYONE WHO LIKED MY MATERIAL, SEES ME ON THE STREET BEGGING FOR A MEAL, PLEASE GIVE IT TO ME. OR, A BOTTLE OF PILLS, SO I CAN KILL MYSELF (THE PERSON FORMERLY KNOWN AS ADAM THE EXPERT) | ||

| The Eldorado would be a 1st stop. For low-limit games (and low-bankroll games), the Cal-Neva has a $1-$6 bet on all streets, in all games. The Circus has good action on Friday night through Sunday evening. The Atlantis has a non-smoking room. The Hilton, Peppermill, Atlantis & Eldorado are very good on weekends. Do not know about Boomtown but they, and the Circus, pay players $1/hr. The Atlantis pays $.50/hr. | ||
