I know there are pros who work there way up to multi thousand $$ bank rolls sometimes millions. But do they!!???

From reading and watching TV most "pros" were once lawyers, CEOs who sold companies for millions, Leaders of small personal organizations or just have tons of money and can play the game the right way to become a pro. On the other hand there are very few who actually go from rags to riches playing poker( IM talking about the millions who play poker but few are pros ratio) for a living.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS SUBJECT?

Hi

You are dead right....VERY few of the top pros made their money by climbing the ladder. It is a VERY tough ladder to climb. MANY of the "Name" pro's made their money doing other things.

Life is Good :-)

I would say it is possible, but ofcourse you have to hit a big win in order to climb the ladder enough. I would not want to only earn money from poker and nothing else simply because it would be too stressful. Poker should be more of a hobby for most.

It is possible, I've done it. Poker as a sole source of income and a starting bankroll of $4000 bankroll. You are right though - most people don't.

Actually, you don't have to hit a big win in order to climb up the ladder and be successful. "Climbing the Ladder" is exactly just that - you start out where your bankroll allows you to start out and you move up from there, "rung by rung." Of course that's easier said then done and most won't last the test of time. However, there are pros who have started out with a moderate bankroll, including myself, and I have never had to hit that really big win that enabled me to play higher. It was a gradual progression for me and it is for most, especially for the pros who don't play tournamnets where one big score could change everything. I do agree that poker should be a hobbly for most because it ain't as easy as some may think. It takes alot of determination besides all of the other important facors as well. But I've done it, I enjoy what I do...and I have no regrets...

Not everyone did climb the ladder. Chris Ferguson and Alan Goehring dealt with stocks(Chris still does) to build a bankroll. Phil Gordon got rich off the dotcom craze. More often than not, these "pros" are, in reality, people who play it on the side or retired from some successful venture. Of course there are those likeChan, Hellmuth, or Flack who started small and came out big.
