| Wednesday, November 12, 2003 I was so tired on Tuesday. We played a marathon 16 hour session on Monday. I guess I am too old to keep doing that. Of course, 35 isn't old, but the diabetes, ugh! Makes me feel very, very tired. I only slept about five hours during the day on Tuesday, then we went shopping and back to the Belle. After only an hour at 4/8, I felt drained. Poker really takes a lot out of the aware player. I had made a quick $100 with three awesome hands, so I cashed out and headed for home. Glenn got even less sleep, so he was as tired as I was, and we got lots of sleep for Wednesday's $100 HE tourney. I got a really good table for the tourney. Mostly loose, passive players who had no idea there was a different strategy for tournaments than ring games. In fact, I'm sure most of them would probably say there IS no strategy for ring games either, it's all luck. Larry was to my left. I slowly increased my stack during the limit portion of the tourney, then stole a few pots during the no-limit time period. I worked my way up to chip lead when we were down to about 18 players. Then I was dealt AKs. I went all-in, to be called by Larry on my left. Everyone else got out of Dodge. Larry had 55 (???). Okay, so Larry doesn't know proper tourney strategy, but I didn't think he was that bad! I had him outchipped by about 800 chips, but he was not short stacked at all. He had about 1000 chips at this point. Why would he call an all-in, going all-in himself with such a marginal hand like 55? Anyway, as is typical, I got my king, but he got his five. Now he was the chip lead, and I was a shorter stack. I got nothing playable in the next few hands, got through my blinds, but was even shorter. I made a move with A2s, in late position, when no one had entered the pot. I was hoping to steal, but the big blind called with 33 (???). No help and IGHN. Yes, I love these types of tables, but it does grate on my nerves to see the worst plays imaginable. We went back to the Riverside, having heard there was a juicy NL overs game going on. No dice. It was a juicy game, but not one player had an overs button. As is typical, the Riverside was teeming with scum. I heard the floorman tell one player, "Sir, please do not call the dealer an asshole." LOL! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Thursday, November 13, 2003 Woooohooo, another Omaha 8 tourney tonight! LOL. I drew a horrible table. Super-aggressive, awful players. Larry was at another table, but predicted there would be someone all-in on the very first hand. His prediction was wrong. There wasn't one person all-in on the first hand, but FOUR! We start out with 100 chips, and the betting structure is 5/10, so you can use your fingers to count just how hard it is to be all-in on the first hand. For the first hour, I never won a hand. If I had a top hand, I would flop abolutely the opposite of what I needed. I usually got out immediately. I got so short stacked that I went all-in with A234, double suited, and got an all high board, save the ace. Then I got AKKQ, two spades, went all-in, and an all low board flopped. I could only laugh. I took the $20 add-on for 500 chips and decided that I would probably start hitting after the break. Our table was the first to be broken up (thank God), and I was sent to a less aggressive, more knowledgable table. I caught a little something in the big blind and went all-in with my two pair, and second nut low draw. Someone else had the nut low, but I got the high all to myself and still managed to almost double up, due to four contenders in the pot. Almost immediately I got moved to the "final" table (although there were still three tables left at this time). I didn't get any playable hands, and started getting blinded out. By the time there were twelve players left, I was running on a chip and a chair, so I decided to "Sklansky" my way into the money by folding. There was no way I could win the tourney, so the next best thing was to get some cash. I successfully folded my way into the final table, surviving my all-in small blind with one chip and tripling up (three chips, wooohooo, and the big blind is four chips, lol). I drew middle position and folded until I was UTG with AKKQ double suited and figured there was no better time, as I'd be out the very next hand. Of course the board came low, and IGHN, in tenth place, but $75 richer, lol. The 4/8 game wasn't that great, even shorthanded, so we decided to call it a night. Zzzzz... Felicia :) | ||

| Hi Felicia Lee, I really enjoy your trip reports, and you have a great flare for writing as well. But I can not tell you how important it is to always, always...put your self and your health before a poker game. I have put in tons of marathons myself back when I was a little bit younger so believe me, I know the feeling, ugh! But you, Felicia Lee, have to be extra careful not to stay too long at the tables. I realize that 16 hours isn't real long, and I know it's fun to be part of the action, but the game isn't going anywhere and it will be there when you get back the next day with a full nights rest. My gosh, I'm starting to sound like a mommy and I don't mean to - but people have a tendency to get caught up when they're at the table. Be smart, think of you, and put everything else second. You'll be so glad you did : ) Cyndy | ||
