omaha 8/b pot odds, spaecemonkey, 29. Nov 2003 23:06

i havent been playing poker for very long and have been playing omaha 8/b even shorter. anyway, ive been playing a lot of omaha in the last couple weeks and i only today realized that i was making a pretty big mistake. i had been calculating the pot odds just like i would in as though i were playing holdem, neglecting the fact that i would only be winning half the pot.

so how exactly do i figure the pot odds in a hi/lo game? from what i understand (or rather what i think i understand) i should figure the pot odds as i had been previously then multiply by two to factor in that will only win half the pot (almost always the low half) and add one to compensate for the fact that i will only win back half of my own bet. is that right, or am i missing something?

For the zero order approximation your method is OK since it assumes that the pot is always split 50-50 pot for each hand. This is probably not true due the 8 or better qualifer. What you need is the stats for the game. If high hands
receive the pot 60% of the time for example, then you should figure the low pot
at 40%. This split is dependent on the players whose starting hand selection
will influence the overall pot split.
