ive been playing poker in card rooms for several months, but ive only recently decided that id like to be good enough at it to actually win money playing both in card rooms and online. anyway, if your goal is to generate some sort of income, in general how much of your winnings gets reinvested into your bankroll and what percentage do you get to go out and spend?

also, i know that your bankroll determines what limits you can play, but is it ever practical financially to play any limit less than 3-6 in a california card room. it seems to me that that is the minimum you must play if you expect to beat the rake.

any comments on either of these topics would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

You're going to have one hell of a time trying to make a living off 3/6 limit games. I would suggest that you wait until you are consistently beating the 10/20 games before you even think about trying to make a living off of it. When you're under pressure to make money on a regular basis that can seriously mess up your game.

As far as what you should have to play certain limits, here is a good link:

If you plan on playing for an income, I would suggest you keep at least double the above recommendations so that you can jump on a juicy higher stakes opportunity if it arises. Most suggestions I've heard also say you should have 3-6 months of living expenses saved on the side.

Do yourself a favor and focus on improving your game for the time being, you'll have a better idea on where you stand in a year or so.

Good luck,
ReMMy

dont let poker be your life, let poker be beneficial to you.
get all debt out of the way *talking CC and such not big loans like car or house*
save up 6 months living expenses
get a part time job doing something fun and enjoyable for you that covers your expenses that gets you away from playing poker *dealing works well since keeps you thinking about the game but not playing*
try and make poker as much of a hobby as possible, allowing your bankroll and experience grow in as much of an unstressed enviroment as you can.
to me the perfect poker player never sees chips as money, they only see them as a means of telling who is ahead or behind, they would never think damn i cant lose anymore or i cant pay the mortgage or wow i won so much i can buy that new harley ive always wanted.

make playing poker as stress free as you possibly can, cause lord knows its more than stressful enough by itself

I play 2-4 at a casino on the east coast. My current avg is 4BB/hr after the rake, tokes, and tips. It is on the increase since my stats include when I was just starting out and made beginner mistakes. With all the terrible players, absolute beginners, calling stations, etc this game is easily beaten despite the rake. These people just don't know how to let go of a hand hahaha. I'm thinking of moving up soon but suspect I will have to adjust my game unless there is a table full of calling stations at 10-20 then I'll quit my job and move closer to the casino hahaha
