A very rare good beat story, rambler, 29. Nov 2003 22:18 | ||

| I had been playing online for some time when I decided to take a rest and watch a 15/30 game which is over my head as I usually play 2/4. For some reason I sat down but didn't play. The game was a little short handed and after watching and seeing it was looser than expected I thought what the hell and paid the BB thinking when it comes around again i'll leave and I can just fold every hand and only lose the blinds once. So I fold three straight hands and then I get AA. I know they only hold up and win 33 percent of the time but i say to myself what the hell and i bet aggressively. I don't even pay attention to what others do as this is all or nothing for me. Well I get plenty of action and amazingly they held up. the hand went to showdown and someone called me with only a pair of queensand I won a huge pot. Of course I smartly got after and went back to my 2/4 game. unfortunately this one good beat doesn't wipe out all the strong hands that i've had only to be outdrawn on the last card by some maniac. | ||

| That's a nice story, good for you :) I made a post here a week or two ago about watching the $15/$30 games at PartyPoker. You can use the search tool to find the post but the gist of the post is: the $15/$30 players at PartyPoker.com seem to suck. Really. I've watched quite a bit of the $15/$30 games at PartyPoker and I see a lot of what looks to me to be extremely loose and poor playing going on. Raising and re-raising on Q high, pots capped all the way to the river only to have someone holding 69 make a pair of nines on the river and win the pot with them. I've even noticed that it's not unusual to see four people in a raised pot at the $15/$30 tables. I see people cold-call $45 with Q8o, I see people cap pots with a pair of deuces against three or four opponents and so on. At first I wondered if maybe this was super-advanced play that I didn't understand but I've come to the conclusion that a lot of players at the PartyPoker $15/$30 table are just fish with more money than skill. | GLAD YOU WON, BUT ADAM THE EXPERT STRONGLY RECOMMENDS THAT NO ONE SIT DOWN IN A GAME, SEVEN TIMES HIGHER THAN THEIR "NORMAL" GAME, EVER!!!! IF YOU WIN , NOW YOU ARE USED TO THE "BIG MONEY" AND YOU ARE TEMPTED TO PLAY IT, ANYTIME YOU GET "STUCK" IN A SMALLER GAME. BUT, YOU DON'T HAVE THE BANKROLL, OR TALENT, TO PLAY THIS LIMIT ON A SUSTAINED BASIS. NOW, YOU HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE "SMALL" GAME, AND "THE THRILL IS GONE" YOU WILL BECOME IMPATIENT, AND FRUSTRATED, THAT THE BIGGEST POSSIBLE POT, IS STILL A TINY FRACTION OF WHT YOU WON, IN THE "BIG " GAME PLEASE, DON'T DO IT, MORE PEOPLE HAVE FAILED IN POKER BECUASE OF THE LURE OF THE GIANT GAME, THEN JUST ABOUT ANY OTHER REASON. NOW, AS FAR AS THE ACES WINNING ONLY "33 PERCENT" REMEMBER, THIS IS AN "AVERAGE" AMOUNT, INCLUDING GAMES WHERE ALL NINE PLAYERS GO TO THE END, ROCKED UP 20-40 GAMES. IT'S NOT AN "AUTOMATIC" STATISTIC, LIKE SOME OTHERS IN A 15-30 GAME, PROPERLY PLAYED, THE FIGURE WILL BE MUCH, MUCH \HIGHER. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T SLOW PLAY THEM. IF YOU WANT TO "TAKE A SHOT" AT A BIGGER GAME, ADAM THE EXPERT STRONGLY RECOMMENDS ONLY GOING TO "TWICE" YOUR "NORMAL LIMIT. SO, YOU CAN TRY THE FIVE TEN, BUT PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, DON'T PLAY 15--30 UNTIL YOU'RE FINANCES, AND EXPERIENCE, QUALIFY YOU FOR THIS LIMIT. GOOD LUCK A.T.E. | ||
