| Maybe I dont play enough hands form the blinds but I have questions about several sample hands in Ciaffones "Middle Limit Holdem". 1. You are BB with 75s. One EP limper. SB raises. Ciaffone says you call the raise. The SB is trying to isolate the limper. Why would you call this raise with a hand that plays lousy 3 way? 2. You are BB with A6s. EP raises, MP calls, SB calls. Ciaffone says to call the raise. Surely at least one of these 3 has an ace with a better kicker. Even though your getting 7-1 it seems like a waste to call hoping for a draw. 3. You are BB with Q8s. EP open raises, MP and SB call. Same problem here, why call this raise? These are not steal raises. Am I playing too tight in the blinds? For those of you who have read this book, I know these are real life sample hands and they are presented to show post flop play. Is it possible that he doenst necessarily condone the preflop calls and is just giving his opinion on the post flop play that comes next? | ||

| They may not be steal raises, but raises made to isolate a weaker player frequently are made with hands which are not as good as you are giving them credit for. Further, because the pot is already becoming large and because your entry in the pot costs only one bet, the implied odds are attractive. A6s is a serious underdog to a hand like AK, but certainly not a 7:1 underdog, and the fact of the matter is that you will win enough of the time simply by flopping an ace that you are giving way too much up by folding. | ||
