| Im currently reading Ciaffone's "Middle Limit Holdem". In the chapter regarding playing draws, he gives a couple examples I was wondering about. In one hand he says (paraphrasing)...you are the SB with 54s. An EPand MP limp, another MP raises. The cutoff and button both call the raise. You and the other players call..... Is it correct to call a raise from the SB with small suited connectors? There is a similar example where you have 67s in the SB and call a raise. I always fold in this situation. Is calling the raise considered correct? | ||

| I call based on whether the small blind is 1/2 or 2/3 the big blind and based on what I think the MP raiser would consider a good raising hand. If the the small blind is only a bet and a third for you to see flop it becomes much more valuable to "defend" or play it even with small suited connectors. At a 1.5 bet that judgement call is based solely on my knowledge of their hand selection. | ||

| Well, it cant be a steal raise coming from MP with 2 limpers already in the pot. Also, you already have 2 people calling the raise so obviously they think they have pretty good hands also. I guess its not that bad a play since it will be a mutiway pot. On the other hand, if I was in LP and had 4 limpers, I still wouldnt play suited connectors that small. | ||

| Not that it is a steal, but you are really defending 2/3 of a bet in the situation of a larger small blind, it is really close to making the same decision as the big blind to call. If your hand hits your likely to get some action from MP and at least one other because the pot is so large, if you miss you only lost 1.33 of a bet. See the increased incentive when the blinds are structured that way. However I see a difference in calling the 1.5 bet raise with that holding and would probably toss the hand if the blinds were structured differently. A bet and a half seems like much more to me I would rather save those chips for a better time. | ||

| Agreed. It all depends on how much you're paying to take a flop. With that many heads you're looking to get paid huge if you hit, and its an easy muck if the board gives no help. | ||

| I think playing a hand like 54s against 5 or 6 other players is a good choice for 1 and a half bets. You can fold very easily if the flop misses, and if you pick up a draw it's easy to figure out your pot odds. If your flush hits then you can speed up or slow down depending on how the table is betting. And if you get a nice flop like 4-4-A or 4-5-K then you have a hand which will generate a lot of action and is very deceptive. Playing drawing hands requires more hands in the pot, and I would say that even with 1 or 2 preflop raises, if there are enough people in the pot then suited connectors are a good value. | ||
