| I've recently developed a desire to improve my tournament play. As a matter of fact I joined the online poker bandwagon only for the purpose of having a great number of inexpensive tournaments in which to practice. Yesterday I decided to see how far I have come and entered the $200 NL tourny at the Commerce. I realize that one tournament isn't going to give me the answer to my question based on results - but I thought it might tell me something based on my confidence level in the decisions I made and how many questions I left with. There were two optional re-buys within the first three levels - no miminum required. I made up my mind before the tournament began that I was not going to make a re-buy - I was willing to invest $200 only. I think one of the most important things I learned is how much I don't like 35 minute rounds. I went from perhaps one of the top 15% of chip counts at one point to a dangerously low stack after running absolutely card dead for a good two hours. I could have withstood one or two round increases but 4 was too many. The tournament paid 18 places and I found myself the short stack with 25 to go. Can't do much about an endless run of 83o and the like but I was happy with my patience and how easily I adjusted plans when it became increasing clear that winning was a more and more unlikely event and crawling up the pay scale as high as I could became my new plan. As it turned out - I remained card dead to the end - my last two hands were the BB with 73o and the SB with 82o with which I snuck into a tie for 10th. I wasn't particularly happy about where I finished but was pleased with how I got there. | ||

| Congrats Angel. Sometimes scratching and crawling can be more rewarding that getting hit by the deck for a while, then getting bumped by a two outer. If your tournament interest continues to blossom, keep us informed of your progress. PA | ||

| Congrats on your nice finish Angel. With what you had to work with, you made it pretty darn far, and that was due to your patience and by being aware of what you needed to do to survive for as long as you could. That had to be rewarding all on its own. So 'hats off to you' for that - and if you had just an ounce of luck on your side to go with it, (which everyone needs), then I am sure you would have placed even higher on the payout scale. Good luck in the next one! Dave | ||
