| Ok, so I Tivo'd the Fox Sports Network's coverage of the showdown at the Sands and I have a few comments: (1) What the hell was up with the fuscia suits behind the players?? (2) What was up with the play by play announcer? Not everything needs to be said with breathless anticipation. I can picture him at a deli: "He is ORDERING (pause) A (pause) TURKEY (pause) (extra emphasis) SAND (pause) WHICH!!!!!!!" I mean, c'mon. Someone making a pot sized bet with top pair is not worthy of twelve verbal exclamation points. And his name for hands: A Kojak? Was it K-9 or K-J? Pick one. He called both Kojak throughout the night. And he referred to A-J as blackjack. Does anyone call it that? I'd not heard that one before. It seemed like this guy should have been forced to play some play chips on UB for 10 minutes to get a feel for the game before ruining 5 hours of poker for me. (3) Lederer was right at home. He's funny. One time, he basically told loudmouth that he was an idiot, although he did it with class and style. Something to the effect of: Loudmouth ("LM"): THAT!! IS!! A!! TERRIBLE!! CALL!! HL: Actually, that's a pretty standard call, he has 9 outs to a big hand and with the middle pair he may have the best hand right now. Most tournament pros would smooth call in that position. I loved it. (4) Could it have been more obvious a deal was cut? One guy was drinking a beer on air and cracking jokes about the mounting pressure. Hyoung, in response to "can you feel the pressure mounting" said "no." (5) The heart rate monitor was pretty cool. Watching guys hit 154 on the monitor while waiting the other guy out was neat. Although gimmicky and had to be uncomfortable as could be. Just my thoughts. | ||

| Agreed on everything but the cutting a deal. I didn't pick up on that but the play at the end of the tournament was questionable. The announcer sounded like he came straight out the WWF | ||

| 1. Don't know what was up either. 2. That guy was ANNOYING. I wanted to turn it on mute. 3. Lederer was great, though. When he talks, people learn something. Reason enough to be called the Professor. 4. I've never seen a deal cut before so I can't spot those but now I'll watch for that. 5. The heart monitors was interesting though I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis. The best thing about the tourney was seeing players that didn't make final tables at the WPT. Guys like Matusow and Negreanu were an absolute treat to watch. | ||

| I couldn't believe the haircut of Jesse May, the announcer the posters above excoriated. A shapeless, comb-proof mess that covered both ears and looked as though a large weasel climbed on top of his head and dropped dead. Ghastly. I too got a bit sick of the catchphrases, especially his calling pocket jacks "hooks". Of course I get it but I kept imagining Mr. Krabs warning Spongebob, "Keep away from the hooks, boy!" I guess I spent too much time with the niece and nephew yesterday. Speaking of the hooks, Daniel Negraneu really got crushed, didn't he? All in with pocket 10s, all in with the hooks, and busted twice by A-K. The first time he got beat when the flop came all aces, giving the other guy (why can't I remember his name) quads. That was a bit excessive, yes? | ||

| Did Daniel Negraneu REALLY turn down $30,000 because he refused to wear a hat that said Poker Stars on it? Supposedly, all the players at the final table were asked to sport the hat and each one of them was given 30 grand just for wearing it. Everyone else wore the hat except for Daniel! What the hell was he thinking?? Either he was told not to, or the boy has lost his marbles! If he was drunk.......DAMN, even I don't get THAT DRUNK! Someone PLEEEASE shed some light my way. | He posted on Rec.poker about his hatred of the walking billboard look. I don't think he is sweating the money. Did you hear his comment about his $60k prize money? Something to the effect that it not even enough to buy a car with. I don't think his concept of $30k is the same ads yours and mine. Its only 3 big tourney buy ins. | ||

| Hey - Hmmm, he doesn't like to look like a walking billboard but he has no problem wearing Nike apparel? Second, if DN feels that 60K isn't even enough to buy a car with, then I'm sorry, he needs to understand the value of a buck a little bit more. He is not well-off by any means, and you'd think he would have aquired better money management skills. Money is money! Personally, I think he was just making a statement, but he should have just put on that little hat, taken the 30K, and put it away for a rainy day or give it to charity If he is "that" well off. LOL! | lets at that for a second $60,000- $10,000 buy in. $50,000 and then pay taxes its actually not as much as it sounds like. Figures you finish ut of the money a few times and your paying those entry fees too. I'm not defending the guy. But, if he doesn't want to wear the hat he doesn't want to wear ther hat. on 29. | Hey, I hear ya KillBill, he doesn't have to do anything that he doesn't want to. Funny thing is - I like the guy, I just don't think that I would pass up on 30K when the sole purpose for doing so is to promote poker, not to take away from poker. To each their own. Cheers, Flakes - | ||

| as to the turn down $30K and "Hmmm, he doesn't like to look like a walking billboard but he has no problem wearing Nike apparel? " Daniel has posted for a long time that he won't get paid to represent a site or risk his playing integrity in any way. He is doing something with Poker School, and he may be paid to play on some online site now? Not sure about the latter. | ||
