Ouch. This one is not for the faint of heart. I was playing at Hollywood Park the other night and was pretty tired. I had just busted out of the NL tourney after playing for 2 1/2 hours. So I played in a 4/8 limit ring game. In one of the third hands, I got K9s in the BB, flopped a flush and proceeded to lose to an A high flush (also flopped). It was going to be that kind of night.

So finally, after getting dealt mostly garbage and being down $80 or so, I pick up Big Slick in MP. A few limpers, I raise 5 callers, flop comes down QJ5 rainbow. A few early players check and I bet out, all 5 flat call. On the river is an Ace and I think I am ahead based on the lack of action on the flop. Action is checked to me and a I raise again, all call. Nice pot building. I am thinking that with all the interest, there are a few players with straight draws and maybe a few top pair with weak kicker and maybe an Ace with a weak kicker.

For some reason, I wasn't thinking about the straight, but was looking for the K or another A and fearing getting outdrawn.

A T hits the river and I made the nut straight. But here is where my brain locked up. I didn't realize it. I can't exactly explain what I was thinking but when the player to my right bet out (he was calling all the way) my instinct was that he just outdrew me (he had p

I actually flipped my cards up showing everyone what a great laydown I made and then to my horror realized that I threw away the winning hand (with over $100 in the pot).

miracle cards a few times and rarely bet unless he had the goods).

My computer screwed up and the end of the previous message doesnt make sense. The player to my right had only bet out on the river when he had the goods.

I don't know what the hell I was thinking...can't exactly explain it, but I was not thinking straight (even though I was looking for the T on the turn) but was thinking my AA was not going to hold up with that board.

I spent about 5 minutes getting consoled by some players and the dealer (some of the good players talked about similar hands they blew like this one to make me feel better).

I was very tired and not thinking that well (although I wasn't playing on tilt at all). I finally hit a monster hand that would have put me back ahead for the evening after taking some bad beats.

This really hurt but it is really a good lesson for me. 1-dont play tired, 2-with boards like that, take your time and look at your hole cards again, especially when a player bets out on the river.

The woman who took down the pot (a very good player) made trip tens on the river. The player who bet out had AT and made two pair on the river. I could have merely called (and made a comment perhaps about hoping nobody had a straight) she would have raised and I could have reraised and took down a real monster!

Going to take a lot of time to get over this one. True bonehead play.

WELL, DON'T FEEL TOO BAD, EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES.

BUT, REMEMBER, YOUR OPPONENTS WILL, TOO, AND

SOME DAY, YOU'LL GET THE POT, WHEN THEY DO THAT.
