So I'm playing the B&M in Sac (Capitol Casino) a few days ago. I'm at the 3-6 HE table, and up ~$120.

Woman #1 had been playing with us for maybe 2 hours. She's a solid player, semi-tight/semi-aggressive. She's definately up.

Woman #2 comes to the table, an older woman who buys maybe $30 in chips.

There's a big pot which I am out of pre-flop, but what happens is amazing... I can't even remember what the board was, but only #1 and #2 make it to showdown, #2 announces, "Straight!" and #1 mucks. After the mucking, the dealer looks at the cards for a moment and goes, "ummm...how about T high?" #2 had misread the straight, and #1 would have taken the pot.

Needless to say, #1 is upset, but I can only imagine she'd be legitimately upset at herself for mucking her hand after not reading the supposed winner. She picked up her chips 2 hands later.

Do you guys rely on the dealer to call the hands, or do you read them yourself? I always hang onto my cards until I know I'm beaten in a showdown.

I was burned once, early on, when someone misdeclared a straight. I wasn't sure if it was intentional or not, but I learned my lesson.

If I have anything with a remote chance in hell, I check theirs myself. Dealers are human, and have been caught missing hands everywhere you go.

Flip em' up and give the whole table a chance to see so that you get 11 sets of eyes on the cards before they muck. You never know what someone might see that you and the dealer have missed.
