Raises and limps that do not occur during a porno, KevinK, 25. Nov 2003 12:26

| In no limit tourneys I've noticed that a lot of players want to limp in with their hands unless they are holding a monster, which is usually an all in. This trend even continues even in later stages of the game. Are people that afraid to bet out anything they have bc it could miss the flop? I am also wondering about a good bet preflop that shows strength that does not hurt my stack since I will probably get called by the limpers-I'm thinking 3 times BB at the moment but feel free to say otherwise. Another question is about chip stack. I can get chips no problem in the beginning whether I bluff the pots or catch cards but see my stack dwindle as the blinds go up. I understand get as many chips as possible, but what is generally the minimum chip amount I should aim to have with regards to BB? | ||

| Kevin, You are approaching tourneys with the wrong mentality. You should not be aiming for a certain chip amount at a certain level. While you should definately be aware of the avg chip stack size, you need to wait until you have a strong hand and maximize your profit. If you are thinking "oh boy, blinds are X/Y, so I need Z chips" then you will be making moves at pots that you shouldn't be. Bluff when you think you have a good chance at taking down the pot, not when you need a certain pot to maintain a preset level. As far as the limping factor, yes most people want to see flops cheaply, showing strength with a 3x BB raise can be a good play vs a couple limper opponents but be careful not to make this too often or they will catch on. Also if you are making plays at a lot of pots early in the tourney people will catch on to this and wait to catch you when the stakes are higher. Good times, ReMMy | ||

| I understand maximizing profit. Its not like I go around saying I need a certain amount, I was just thinking what a good average stack would be so I don't get myself into too much trouble. | ||

As big as possible without exposing yourself to undue risk. I have won tournys after having say T1000 with the blinds at 50/100 or 75/150.

| I have heard of some players using a standard 3BB or 4BB raise preflop without variance regardless of hole cards. In other words, AA raise same as AQo etc regardless of MP or LP.. This prevents others from getting reads on you. | ||
