Adam, I have said a few thing on previous posts jokingly to put you down. As I read more and more of your posts, I can see that you do have a great knowledge of poker. I play both NLHE and Omaha and have found a lot of your advice very useful. The more I read your what you say, the more I truly believe that you are an EXPERT. The spelling and grammar can be annoying, but like you said, when your getting top notch advice, you can ignore the bad spelling and grammar. You crack me up with you 3rd person narrative posts and your side comments. You know how to keep a reader attentive even with bad spelling and structure, but your information and the way your present it is unique in its own way, and I find it VERY ENJOYABLE. The cap letters can be hard to read though, I hope your book isnt in caps :)
Anyway, when is your book coming out? Can I get it for $55 with my UPF coupon? LOL I'll start putting some of my winnings aside so I can purchase it. Thanks again, and I encourage other readers to look past Adam's arrogance and english, and appreciate what he does for the boards and fellow poker players.

He does give good poker advice. He has way too much to learn in some other areas though, and I doubt he will bother due to the ego. If he writes the book, I'd probably buy it.

I'd want to see a sample chapter first, If it wasn't in caps and stuck to poker instead of his past accomplishments, I might buy it just to support his doing it, but I agree with Lee, I don't think it will happen.

What intrigues me is why he never answers any questions about who he is or his accomplishments. I guess he has something to hide and enjoys being able to hide his real identity if he is anybody that is well known.

Jordon, no one that i've seen, has asked this question.

It's not like I look over every category, to see if anyone's saying anything

about me.

Now, let's get one thing straight once and for all.

EVERYONE LISTENING

The best players in the world, go way out of their way, for you to

NOT know them

The ones on T.V. have even bigger egos to feed, than Adam the EXpert,

and just LOVE the attention.

Not being known, does NOT mean not knowing!!!

> Not being known, does NOT mean not knowing!!!

In my case it does :-)

Didn't Daniel Negreanu say that the best players are the ones no one knew?

No TV appearances, no pictures in magazines. All they had to show for was a house that were paid for, cars that were paid for, kids put trough college.....

ADAM THE EXPERT: Do you believe it's possible to make a decent living on the tournament trail, or is it just a few lucky years for some and then...nothing?

Sure, it's possible to make a "decent' living on the tournament trail . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . providing that you don't play, in the tournaments!!!!!

Well, not very much, anyway.

Ha ha tee hee hee!!! No matter where you go, the cash "side" games

that can be found during "major" tournaments, are almost always,

MUCH better, than during non-tournament times (hey, maybe this

small letter thing, has it's advantages, now i can emphasize a word,

by capitalizing it!!)

Did I say MUCH, I meant: MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better!!

This is for two reasons

Reason one, you find tournament "groupies" and other non winning

players, who come to the event, to watch the "excitement" and may have

little or no knowledge of how to actually play.

Two, many, many great tournament players, are or act least play like

TOTAL BALLOONS!!!! (BALLOON=slang term used by professional

players, to describe someone who is, uh, not quite up to snuff!!)

No need to mention names, but rymes with "bevildish" and "gobert

burner" are to classic examples.

Sure these players know that they can't just bully the live game players,

the way they can in a tournament, but, if they have just won an event,

IT'S GAMBLE TIME!!!

As far as making a living playing the tournaments, and only the tournaments,

you would have a better chance, searching the beach for a bottle, with

a magic genie inside!!!!

Ha Ha, tee hee hee.

No way, Jose. Pas de chance. Nil Zippo.

And, if it were possible, the bankroll requirements, would be actually

a couple DOZEN times higher, than to make the same living, in live games.

This is because, in tournament play, you are really looking for how well

you did, the FIVE YEAR period, or even DECADE.

Also, add in massive airfare and hotel accomandations expenses,

And you can see why only a handful, (well, ok, maybe two handsfull)

of people in the WORLD, actually make a living in tournament play.

Let's take a look, at the classic example, of what happens, to these

"tournament stars"

Remember Nilly Primradge? About ten years ago, she was just tearing

apart, the tournament circle. Last I heard, she was dealing 1-4 stud,

in Reno.

(Ed. Note: this is to say nothing bad about the Lady, I don't know her, and

never analyzed her play)

The amount of luck, in tournaments, is so much higher in live games,

there really are no words to describe just how much.

Downside: you get to play against players you don't want to play against,

at a seat that you wish you could change, at blinds, that are uncomfortable

to you, and if you are tired, not feeling well, or for any other reason, want

to just quit, and cash out a winner, or small loser-TOUGH!!!!

Sure, wouldn't it be "cool" to become another Phil Ivey? (let's see where

he is, in five years, two years, is not enough to consider that he's

a long-term "star")

But, this just is not possible. Also remember, that the people you see,

on television, winning event after event. HAD THE MONEY IN THE FIRST

PLACE, TO PLAY A TON OF EVENTS, UNTIL THEY EVENTUALLY

WON ONE, WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY FINANCED THE REST OF

THEIR CAREER!!!

Years ago, there was a card player article, describing just how much of

a bankroll, a person would need, to compete in all the major Events in

the country. Adam the Expert does not remember the exact figure, but

it was in the stratosphere.

And now, it's not only the events of this country, but other countries as

well!!!!

WE ARE TALKING WELL INTO THE SIX FIGURES HERE, MAYBE

EVEN APPROACHING SEVEN FIGURES!!

It's soooo easy, to have a losing YEAR, in tournament play

And then, you have all your normal living expenses, on top of that.

I want people to understand that, when they see someone like Phil

Ivey, walking away, with a sullen expression on his face, that he

"only won $57,000" and didn't place higher.

Most of us would be happy with one win like that, in a lifetime!!!!! But

a full-time tournament professional, is under such financial pressure,

that anytime they don't place as high as they feel they could have, they

MUST be very upset with themselves!!!!

GEEEEEEEEZE, anyone ever stop to think, just how much Phil Ivey

has to win in a year, just to BREAK EVEN.!!!!!!!!

(TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS, SORRY, BUT ADAM THE EXPERT HAS

TO TELL THE TRUTH)

Also, tournaments have rather much shot themselves in the foot, by

making REDICULOUS rules, and lowering the top payout, to the

point, where it's no longer "fun" to win the "big one"

Now, to an extent this was necessary, to help stop the "dumpers"

(dumpers=people who hire other players to sit in the tournament,

and when against the employer, deliberately lose )

BUT, THE NEW RULES, LIKE" CAN'T TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR

HAND, ANY CARD ON THE FLOOR, NO MATTER WHAT, PENALITY.

OR, THE WORST (WHICH THEY MAY OR MAY NOT STILL HAVE, I DON'T

KNOW)

ANY HAND EXPOSED BEFORE THE ACTION IS COMPLETE, IS A DEAD

HAND.

ADAM THE EXPERT WOULD LIKE TO GRIND UP WHOEVER THOUGHT

UP THIS RULE, INTO HAMBURGER, AND FEED IT TO WOLVERINES!!!

Now, Adam the Expert invented the "show your hand" technique, about

15 years ago, and it's completely legitimate.

If you want everyone out, that's your #%^@%#!$@%^$# business.

But, Ok, I can see why this powerful technique, might want to be banned.

But when an innocent person, is just trying not to "slow roll" MAN!!!

in 1995, Adam the Expert's brother (VERY SWEET KID, NOT AT ALL

LIKE ADAM THE EXPERT)

THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS ALL IN, AND AS A COURTESY, IMMEDIATELY

SHOWED HIS ACES, SO AS NOT TO SLOW ROLL THE PERSON.

AND HAD HIS HAND "KILLED"

THE TOURNAMENT FEINDS, HAVE GONE TOO FAR!!!!

"ADAM THE EXPERT WISHES THAT THIS "TAHOE" CASINO, IS

RAZED BY A MOB OF ANGRY BULLDOZERS.

ADAM THE EXPERT, SAYS THAT IT'S OK, TO PLAY SOME TOURNAMENTS,

MAINLY, FOR EXTERTAINMENT PURPOSES.

THEY CAN ALSO BE GOOD, TO GET THE BANKROLL YOU NEED, TO

MAKE A LIVING IN LIVE GAMES.

BUT, TO MAKE A "DECENT LIVING"

DREAM ON, MY FRIEND!!!!

WITH A 50,000 TO 70,000 BANKROLL, IT'S EASY AS PIE, TO MAKE

150,000 TO 250,000 A YEAR, ON THE INTERNET.

WITH TEN TIMES THAT, YOU MIGHT DO A LITTLE BETTER IN TOURNAMENTS

IF AND ONLY IF, YOU HAVE THE TALENT.

YOU MAKE THE CHOICE.

Hey ADAM -

I agree to alot of what you just said. However, you spoke of Phil Ivey as being a tournament player as if that was his only source of income. That is not true by any means. I know Phil and he makes his living from playing (ring) cash games as well as playing in the tournaments. In fact, when he's not involved in the tournaments, you can always expect to see him at the tables. He puts in the time, believe me, he does.

Before he moved out to California, which was about a year ago, he lived and played in Atlantic City. At that time, he was already an established and successful tournament player, but whenever I was at the Taj, (which is on a regular basis), he was there as well, "Grinding it out" if you will in his measly little $400-800 game (and higher!)....but prior to his tournament success, he was consistently playing high limit poker, climbing up the limt chain and making a name for himself in this field. He is no slouch in the cash games!

I was in California and in Vegas just this past summer, for about four months, and there he was...all the time, earning his living. Shorthanded games are his preference, and believe it or not, he plays very little hold-em when he plays in cash games.

So bottom line here and to make the story short.....things are not always what they appear to be and television has a way of deluding people sometimes. Phil Ivey just happens to be one of the rare exceptions, thus, if they stopped spreading tournaments?.....he would still be a successful poker player. The guy has got sheer and utter talent, and so far, he's got his head on straight as well - which is a MUST to survive regardless of how much ability one has.

I heard somewhere, can't remember where, that Ivey is also in the money lending business. So he definitely doesn't have all his eggs in one basket.

Hi - Do you really "want" to have all your eggs in one basket?! Anyway, how reliable are your sources? Keep in mind, there is a huge difference between being in the money lending business (which he is not), and putting players in games in which he feels are a favorite to earn money, hence, making money for himself, as well. (which he will do)....on occasion. Now, I will not claim that he's perfect, because nobody is....but I will say that he is one of the smarter players (all the way around), that's out there today. I think that says quite a bit for someone his age, I really do :-)

If you all were really interested, you should have emailed me.

I didn't discover this "thread" until today, two weeks later.

If I can't make twenty grand out of doing this (at least) I'm not going

Well, Sorry that I didn't notice this before, I don't really "scan"

all the categories. thank you for your (correct) assessment, of

the quality of my teachings. as far as the capital letters go,

i may consider dropping them, and as a special treat, I'm

doing this one, is microscopic letters.

rememer, I am not being paid, directly or indirectly for my work

here, so I don't feel obligated in the slightest, to spend the extra

time, to have a "professional" appearance, to my posts.

As far as the big, 1000 copy book is concerned, I only got

three positive responses to that, so I probably won't do it.

Yes, it would be the most expensive poker book, in history.

Most people, just do not realize the full extent of Adam the Expert's

expertise, and thus, do not appreciate the value they would

be getting.

If people can pay fifty bucks, for a book that is so out of date,

as to me about 80% useless, then they can pay 60 for mine,

which is not only a complete education, in making a living in poker,

but also DARNED entertaining.

My current thoughts, is that if someone is interested in buying the

rights to my books for a set fee, plus a small percentage of the

sales, then I would be interested in putting forth the GREAT

effort that would be required to write the BEST poker book, of

all time.

But, some how, I don't envision spending 500 or so hours

doing a book, having my dad edit it (don't worry, he's GRRREAT)

and then getting a check here and there for sixty, and putting

a copy in an envelope, etc. etc.

Anyone seriously, interested in doing this, please email

me.
