hold'em blinds, Banning, 25. Nov 2003 00:41

We're playing a game of pot limit hold'em tomorrow. My friends and I just want to try out pot limit to familiarize ourselves so we're all just buying in for 5 bucks for the night. Rebuys if people go broke, I'm just curious what would be a good blind structure for pot limit. there will be about 6 or 7 of us. For limit betting the blinds would be 5/10 cents but I'm just curious if they should be modified for pot limit in some way. Thanks.

Banning,

If each person is buying in for $5 and you are playing pot-limit, I would take in to blinds of 10/20 cents. The whole advantage for pot-limit strategy comes with the pre-flop raise protection on your premium hands/getting good money for your good hands. Example, say your first to act with AA, you can put in a bet 50 cents (10+20+20). This will give a better ratio threat to a stack of $5.

Have Fun!

ok banning, i'm going to practice the new kinder, gentler style,
recommended by Roy Cooke.

The thing to remember about pot limit, is that no matter how
small the blinds are, the pots build so fast, that there will
be frequent all ins and rebuys.

the exception to this, is if you actually have sub-penny blinds,

like quarter cent, half cent

even then, with raises, you would be surprized how quickly
a five dollar stack can be eaten up
ooops, sorry, forgot about my "no double spacing" special
for today.

example: six players, see the flop, for a small raise, to
1.5 cents. pot total: 9 cents. there is a bet, a two calls,
now a pot size raise to 45 cents.
one person calls the 45 cents, pot total $1.08
the turn, the flop raiser bets $1.08 and the other player calls
on the river, the bet is 3.24, and now the loser of the pot,
will only have 14 cents left ! ! ! ! (assuming that he started
the hand with 5 dollars.

AND THIS is with 1/2 cent big blind!!!!
anything more, and you would have people going all in on the
flop, and this does'nt really make for a good game

so, with five buck stacks, Adam the Expert recommends
a maximum, of 1 and 2 cent blinds.

we played 5 cent blinds and it worked pretty well. because the blind was so small the player who just sat there being super tight pretty well did the best. in pot limit, is tighter play even more important than in limit play? certainly felt like it was.
