Struggling late in SNG's, Erik67, 24. Nov 2003 20:36 | ||

| I have been playing in a lot of Limit HE SNG's on PokerStars with $5 entry's. Although I have made the money, top 3, more than not, I seem to struggle when it gets below 4 players. I start playing super tight before the flop and betting aggressively when I do flop a top pair w/ big kicker or better hand. This gets me to the top 4 or 5 pretty easily. Last night with the final 4 I had almost half the chips and came in 3rd. The hands that won me big pots with a full table are coming up short in the late stages. Aren't lesser hands supposed to have a better chance in a game with fewer players? I generally don't get in hands I shouldn't just to eliminate someone either. What is my problem? Thanks, Erik | ||

| Limit SnG's the blinds get so large that you can usually only take one hand to the river, and as soon as you commit yourself, often you're forced to go all the way with it. That's the case at least on party, and in that situation there's simply a huge amount of luck involved. If you're good enough to consistently get shorthanded then you should overall be profitable in them. I do not play limit SnG's extensively enough to give solid advice shorthanded, especially since I don't know the blind structure at stars. | ||

| That is also the case at Stars. It starts at 20/40 and is 300/600 at the 60 min. mark. I do find myself on both sides of the one hand to the river that you mentioned. Maybe I'll try to staying out unless I flop trips or better. My big hit last night was when I had my K high flush beat by his A high flush. Even though I called his bet on the river becuase I feared the one card in hte deck that could beat me I was shocked when he did have it. thanks | ||

| Well if you only wait for an absolute monster your opponnent will be able to buy way too many pots and should undoubtadly win. I'd say the key late is simply try to play your hands in position as much as possible.... so you can trap someone with a monster if he will bet out, or can bluff more effectively. | ||
