| So I played a little 9 handed NL tourney today with some friends. I'll discuss some highlights of it, but first, the one hand that I saved a lot of chips on from reading the forum: We're 4 handed at this point. Blinds were 100/200 I was shortstacked, in the BB, with about 350 or 400 after I posted. I get dealt A4. Everyone folds around to the SB, who takes a look at my stack, then raises me 200. For a second, I consider that he's trying to steal, but then I remembered reading a post on tells that often when a players eyes go towards your stack, they have a good hand. I folded the hand, he cursed, and turned over KK. After this, I built up my stack (i'll explain some of the plays I felt went well) for another hour or so, before being outdrawn on an all in. Good plays that kept me in the tourney: - first play was just fortunate, 5 handed, I had 125 chips with blinds at 50/100, UTG, I get dealt AKs. I go all in (25 extra, lol) and get 3 callers. I caught my flush on the river to jump up to 500 and get a little breathing room. Strangely enough, I would have won the hand even without the flush. The other 3 players checked it all the way and somehow none of them made a pair. -later, 4 handed with blinds at 75/150 (I have around 650). I get dealt QT on the button. UTG folds and I raise it to 350. BB thinks about it then calls. Flop comes T47 no suits. He puts me all in, I call. He had pocket 3s and put me on over cards. I doubled up again. -later, still four handed, blinds at 100/200 I believe. I have around 900 in chips and get dealt QQ in the BB. UTG folds, Button and BB call. I decided on a raise, and was basically pot committed if I did, not wanting to throw all my money in when there I was staring at a flop with an Ace or King, I moved all in for another 700. They both fold. And the hand I died on: -Blinds at 100/200, still 4 handed I'm at 1050. UTG, I went all in with KT. I was called by a larger stack in the SB, with QT. He caught his queen high straight on the turn. I knew it was a risky play, but I knew I needed to steal blinds/double up to stay in the tourney, as I was the shortstack. In that situation, I figured that if I was called, I was probably beat, although I wasn't. The player who outdrew me used my chips to cripple the big stack at the table a few hands later and went on to win it. Funny little note - both of the final 2 were very lucky to get there. The second place finisher was involved in a hand *very* similar to the hand Chris Ferguson beat Cloutier on. He had A9 and opponent had AQ, He raised, the AQ re-raised him all in and he called. Ace came on the flop, 9 came on the river. Also, the hand I was knocked out on, My opponent had 2/3 of his chips in the pot, so he wasn't gonna have much of a shot if he doesn't win that pot. All in all, it's the best I think I've played to date, I went out 4th, but I feel that was very good considering I got next to nothing playable for about the first two hours while blinds ate away at my stack. I was seeing the game very well and felt I was making all the right plays. Do you think the KT play was risky, due to position? It was four handed, so I figured I could/needed to take a chance. | ||

| one trick used at times depending on the situation is just call and showdown a hand where someone gets put all in barely more than the BB the idea is someone knocks him out for free basically and the group has lots of chances versus your one chance Rule #1 of Poker Circumstances alter cases Rule #2 NEVER forget rule #1 | ||
