Success in my first B&M, Thanks, and a question, SCOTT FRANCIS, 19. Nov 2003 05:17

Saturday I played in the Showdown At The Sands in Atlantic City($200 w/ rebuys, $100k guaranteed), I finished 11th out of 335, made $2622 and had a great time for my first live tourney. Thanks to everyone here for all of their help but I am not through using you yet.

Although I didn't do anything really wrong I made several rookie mistakes, picked up my cards, string bet more than once, got out of my chair during a hand in which I was all in. I was told this was not allowed. My etiquette was not very good.

My biggest mistake according to the floor person was discussing a hand. I'm 2 away from the money in just above avg chip position ($30000) blinds are around 500/1000, antes around 100. I'm on the button with KK and one caller whos solid and one raiser to 3000 (to my immediate right) whos been stealing for quite a while. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have much but put the early player on Ax or smaller pair. Im afraid of the A and just want to steal the pot here, dont want a battle with these guys they have too many chips and I'm too close to the money. The guy to my right says (out of turn) you can have it. The EP debates a while and says "you got big ones". I reply ( without knowing any better) "yep, big ones that look alike, and if you fold I will show them to you" He folds and I take the pot, then the floor person stops the game comes over and gives me a warning that if I discuss my hand again I will be put on a 10 minute penalty. I really had no idea you couldnt discuss a hand. Now in your opinion should I have played that differently and tried to make a big score? Any input would be appreciated.

WELL SCOTT, YOUR EXPERIENCE REFLECTS THE SAD REALITY,

THAT THE PEOPLE WHO RUN THE GAMES IN THE WORLD TODAY,

ONLY WANT THEMSELVES, TO MAKE ANY MONEY.

THEY WANT TO TAKE ALL THE SKILL, OUT OF POKER, AND

MAKE IT AN ENTERTAINMENT VENUE, WHERE ALL THE

MONEY EVENTUALLY FINDS IT'S WAY DOWN THE RAKE SLOT!!

oopps, I DARED TO MENTION THE "EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHS"

GUESS I'M "BANNED" NOW FROM POSTS.

THIS IS WHY ADAM THE EXPERT, AND HIS MID TO HIGH

SIX FIGURE EARNER FRIENDS, MERELY LAUGH, AT THE NOTION,

OF PLAYING A NON-INTERNET TOURNAMENT.

GEEEEEEEEEZZZZEEEEE!! TAKE ALL THE SKILL AWAY, WHY

DON'T YOU.

FIRST, THE ENEMY TOOK AWAY OUR 60% TOP PRIZE, THEN

THEY HAD THE AUDACITY, TO SAY THAT WE COULDN'T

SHOW OUR HANDS, TO INDUCE A FOLD.

NOW, I'VE HEARD THAT YOU CANNOT TELL THE TRUTH,

ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE ! ! ! ! ! !

MY GOD, WHAT GIVES THESE PEOPLE THE RIGHT, TO RUIN

THE GAME OF POKER ! ! !

AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN DO THAT, YOU HINTED ABOUT WHAT

YOU HAD, BUT DID NOT TELL "EXACTLY" WHAT YOU HAD

TALKING ABOUT YOUR HAND, WITH THE INTENTION OF

INDUCING ACTION, IS A PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE TECHNIQUE,

UP TO A POINT.

YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SAY EXACTLY WHAT YOU

ARE GOING TO DO, BUT ANYTHING UP TO THE POINT OF

"GOSH WHAT A GREAT HAND, I DARE YOU TO CALL, LET'S

GAMBLE UP"

IS PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE, AND SHOULD BE ALLOWED.

THE PEOPLE WHO RUN TOURNAMENTS NOWADAYS, ARE

JOKES, AND I WILL TELL THEM THAT TO THEIR FACES, IF

NECESSARY.

ALL THEY WANT, IS TO PUT ON A GOOD SHOW, MAKE EVERYTHING

GOOD FOR THE TELEVISION CAMERAS, AND TO HELL

WITH THE PURITY AND TRADITIONS OF POKER.

HEADS UP, YOU SHOULD EVEN BE ALLOWED TO SHOW YOUR

HAND, AND SAY ANYTHING, TO GET THE DESIRED RESULT.

THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE THIS TECHNIQUE, AS

THOSE, THAT ARE NO GOOD AT IT.

WHAT'S NEXT: THE ABOLITION OF ALL RAISES!! BANNING

ALL WINNING PLAYERS!!!!

I'VE GOT AN IDEA, WHY DON'T WE DROP HOLD EM, FOR A

NEW GAME I INVENTED: ONE 'EM

EVERYBODY PUTS MONEY IN, AND WHOEVER GETS THE

HIGHEST CARD, WINS THE POT.

WAIT: I'VE AN EVEN BETTER IDEA"

DROPPER! ! !

EVERYONE GETS A RACK OF CHIPS, IN A DIFFERENT COLOR,

THE RAKE SLOT, IS WIDENED A BIT, AND LEFT OPEN

EVERY PLAYER, THROWS THEIR CHIPS, TOWARDS THE

HOLE, AND WHOEVER GETS THE MOST IN THE DROP BOX,

WINS TWO RACKS, AND THE OTHER SEVEN (10-HANDED

GAME) GOES TO THE HOUSE ! ! !

OH, I'M SORRY, WE ALREADY HAVE THAT: IT'S CALLED

LOW LIMIT GAMES, WITH $3 RAKE ! ! !

MY MISTAKE
