Hypothetical Question, JohnFR, 18. Nov 2003 08:22

This is something I want to get the opinion of the community about. Let's say you are in the beginning stages of a high dollar buyin tournament(whatever high dollar is to you), and you get tossed QQ in late position. If you know that your opponent has AKs and he pushes all in would you call? We all know that sound tournament strategy is to survive, so is the risk worth it? What about if you had KK or AA? Would you be willing to push all-in and hope you don't get outdrawn?

Now let's say it is the WSOP and it only happens 1 time a year would you be willing to call all-in in the hopes you don't get outdrawn?

I am trying to decide if my tourney strategy should be survive until I have a near nut hand, or whether it should be try to get all my chips out there when I feel I have the best hand, even if there is a good chance to be outdrawn before all is said and done, all opinions are much appreciated.

Cheers,

John

If you think you're one of the best players in the tourney--and don't we all--then you muck coin flip hands or slim edges early. You have an edge as one of the best and should wait for better spots. Most pros in tourneys loath going all-in early without the nuts.

If you're humble enough to admit you're not one of the best players, then you take whatever little edge you have and you would call with your queens in hopes of doubling up and giving your less skilled self a chance.
