| After you have made the best hand possible out of the seven cards, do you play all five cards when determining who has the best hand? Example 1 Player A: 4c 10c Player B: 3c 9c Community: Ac Ad Jc Kc Qc In this case both players have a club flush to the ace, but Player A has the higher kicker with 10c, so would Player A win? Example 2 Player A: Ks 4d Player B: Kd 10h Community: 9c 9s Jd 5h Ah In this case, both players have a pair of 9's, but Player A plays Ah Ks 5h whereas Player B plays Ah Ks 10h. Would Player B win in this case? | ||

All 5 cards play. For example: AAAA6 beats AAAA5 > > Example 1 > > Player A: 4c 10c > Player B: 3c 9c > Community: Ac Ad Jc Kc Qc > > In this case both players have a club flush to the ace, but Player A has the > higher kicker with 10c, so would Player A win? Yes, player A's hand of AcQcJcTc9c beats Player B's AcQcJc9c3c. > > Example 2 > > Player A: Ks 4d > Player B: Kd 10h > Community: 9c 9s Jd 5h Ah > > In this case, both players have a pair of 9's, but Player A plays Ah Ks 5h > whereas Player B plays Ah Ks 10h. Would Player B win in this case? Same deal, yes. The higher kicker takes the pot! | ||

| Sorry marty, I should have looked more closely at your example #2. It is a split pot, as 4 poker noted. | ||

| Hi Marty - My answers are underneath your questions. Let's clarify some things here. on 16. Nov 2003 10:52 Marty C. wrote: > After you have made the best hand possible out of the seven cards, do you play > all five cards when determining who has the best hand? 4P- Yes. > Example 1 > > Player A: 4c 10c > Player B: 3c 9c > Community: Ac Ad Jc Kc Qc > > In this case both players have a club flush to the ace, but Player A has the > higher kicker with 10c, so would Player A win? 4P- Yes, player A wins the pot as he is using his Ten, and he only needs to use one of his cards here to make his hand. His hand reads as follows: Ac-Kc-Qc-Jc-*10*c. He makes the highest hand because in this case Player A has completed his hand to a Royal Flush. 4P- No. It is a split pot. You only use the five best cards to make your hand. In this case with the paired board, BOTH players will be using their King for one of the 5 playable cards and their kickers will never come into play with this board. Example here: You both play the pair of nines which is 2 cards - then you take the highest card on the flop which will be the Ace (which makes 3 cards) - then THIS is where their King fits in as the next highest card after the Ace, (that would be 4 cards at this point), and then both players would play the Jack as the 5th remaining playable card because 9-9-A-K-*J* is higher than 9-9-A-K-*4* AND it's higher than 9-9-A-K-*10*. The Jack is a playable card and both players will use it thus, it eliminates both of their kickers here - the Ten and the Four. (If say an 8 was on the board instead of the Jack, THEN the K-10 would win because the 10 is higher than the 8). You always play the *best/highest* 5 cards starting from the highest card down and when there's a pair on the board, that pair counts as using 2 cards. Hope that helps. 4P- | ||
