| Here is a play I can't remember ever doing until one hand last night and I was somewhat criticized for it and I wanted to get some feedback on it. I was on a very strange table with a very wide range of players on it so I was having alot of fun as I had to adjust my game almost hand by hand depending on the opponents in the hand at that time. I was up about 40 BB at this point. I'm on the button with 55. Folded to late EP who raises. Now late EP took a few bad beats from the resident looseys at the table and was down about 20BB. I read him as a decent player but might be tilting a little. The tables folds to me and I three bet. I figured there was a very good chance that the raiser didn't hold a pair and I wanted to play him heads up. Well the SB and BB cold call, which I'm not excited about, and the raiser calls. The flop comes QQ8 rainbow. Checked to preflop raiser who bets. I raise hoping to represent KK, AA, or even trip Q. The blinds fold and the raiser calls. I probably would have folded to a reraise here. At this point I figure AK, JJ or even AJ or TT but I don't have him on a queen because he tended to play his hands fast and straight forward. I figured more than likely AK because I couldn't see him calling my raise with an underpair...but tilt does stranger things. Anyway. The 5 comes on the turn and I have the house. He led and called my raise the rest of the way. It turns out the the raiser had TT and I really lucked out on the hand. I am just wondering if any thinks this is a ok play once in awhile in limits HE or did I have a moment of insanity? | ||

| If you're going to play in that spot, a 3 bet is almost automatic. It's ugly when you make the play and the blinds both call, but sometimes it happens. You lucked out, but it happens to everyone. Lee | ||

| I wouldn't put much stock in ANY unsolicited critique you receive at the table. If the person REALLY knew what they were talking about, then they would know that critiquing a truly bad play is worse than making a truly bad play... They're upset because you beat them with a worse starting hand and they were unable to put down their pocket pair, which btw is a very big weakness in many players... Also, if you're going to pay 2 bets for a small PP, you might as well make it 3 and take control of the board(and find out if your up against a possible AA or KK... | ||

| You did not state what the limits were, only referring to so many BB;s. Now, if you were playing $100-$200, a re-raise might have been warranted, but at $1-$2, you were foolish and got lucky. That is to say, it is very difficult to bluff for a dollar or two, but not so difficult for $100 or $200. I personally would have mucked those 5's very quickly behind a raise, notwithstanding the ultimate results. Kennycatkiller | ||

| It was 2/4 online. Yes I do know I lucked out on hand as I this is a muck situation for me unless I'm playing NL. I appreciate the responses. I just wanted to see if this this is a play I could keep in the "trick play" section of my playbook. | ||

| I really don't see how the limit effects anything in a ring limit table. You should sit down at a table that your bankroll is comfortable at playing with. The best way for him to state this is in terms of BB's, and that is how everyone should think, IMO. Yes, to me (and I am assuming you) 100/200 there is no way I would reraise preflop...mostly because I wouldn't be sitting there :P I know you just picked a limit out of thin air, but I guess my point is it doesn't matter one bit, IF you are playing at the limit you should based on your bank roll. to many of us, 100/200 table only something we can dream about playing regularly, and yet to others it is chump change. Perspective changes things :) | ||
