Is it correct to assume that by moving from a 3-6 to a 6-12 you will rid yourself of players playing garbage hands to the river. Or do you see the same reckless play?

I see this post in it's many forms ad naseum. Maybe I'm missing something, but why would you want to leave a game where players are playing garbage?
I don't think a dull, low EV, formulaic game with a bunch of rocks is the ideal place to make money...

When no one folds and half the table stays in for the flop regardless of how many times it has been rasied it presents to many problems. I would love to play with one or two loose cannons but half a table full?

One thing I have noticed in LL online ring games is that you get half the table calling you (raise or no raise), so I have started to play the short-handed games whenever possible. Having 2 people calling you (with garbage) in a 6-headed game can be a lot more profitable that having 5 callers in a 10-headed game.

Works for me.

There are two reasons why I don't mind:
1) When you're not in a hand they are passing chips to each other which means they think that these garbage hands are actually working.
2) You get the big score when you get the nuts vs. a good hand.

I'll admit that the swings are wide, but the big score (i.e. doubling or tripling your buy-in) more than makes up for it. Of course, I've also dropped 50BB+ in a night. I just find the overall expectation to be greater in these games. If you've got just one fish in a game you stand more of a chance of not being able to go up against him, especially if other decent players recognize it and are also making isolation plays.
I think magnus' idea of playing in a 6-handed game is a good idea if you want to avoid 6-9 fish at a time.

caggy-

I think it will likely depend a lot on where you play. At my B&M, the 3/6 games got worse as poker became so popular. It reached a saturation point where solid play doesn't work any more because you are the only solid player and the other eight are just taking turns sucking you out. When you have five different players chasing you on any given hands, chances are one of them will pass you.

I moved to 6/12 and found it much better, not because the players were any better, they weren't really, but they were more reluctant to suck out because of the bigger stakes.

Basically, it's like this: there are still plenty of fish playing trash hands, and there are still players who like to gamble, but your bets get slightly more respect, so you won't have four or five people playing different trash hands chasing you every time you make a hand. Instead you only get one or two who will pay you off, and there's less chance of getting sucked out. It's a lot like the 3/6 was when I first started playing.

In general, I find that the 6/12 pays better... but beware, if you run bad you lose twice as much money for the same amount of bets.
