| During the thousands of hours I've played multi-table tournaments in the last few months, I've had a few things happen to my game, and few of them have been good. Since I've been wisely holding out for strong holdings, I've found myself folding to a lot of hands that end up getting shown as weaker. Fine, I'm playing too tight, playing to survive, and playing not to lose instead of to win. I can accept that. It seemed like I hadn't made an aggressive bet that had been called in weeks and it was clouding my outlook of what was actually happening in these games. I was being read, used, and abused. Last night, I broke out and played a few heads up tourneys on UB to get my feel back for what works and what doesn't. Sure, I missed a few plays here and there, but the recognition of when to bet, when to pass, etc. is what I want to make sure I still have. I'm going to stick with it for another week or so, take a break, then switch back to the multi-table tourneys again....as I have a WSOP satellite coming up in a few months. Any comments?.....this could just be my daily affirmation that I'm good enough, I'm strong enough, doggone it.......... | ||

| Hey Risky- Yeah, I find myself in that place every so often as well. My last sour-streak was probably aggravated when I started playing that way. It was terrible, got to the point where every time I sat down I was in a bad mood, somehow "knowing" that I just couldn't win. Bbut I did basically what you were talking about: focussed on the best play I knew how to do. Once I got into that place, I started reading the table again, and picking up pots again. Now I'm in the midst of one of my most profitable win-streaks. -Moz "One November spawned a monster in the shape of this child..." | ||

| Risky: I am going through a lot of what you are but I think I probably play a little bit looser than you. Once I loosened up a bit selectively I started winning a whole lot more. Mind you, this doesn't mean playing stupid loose, but I attack the blinds relentlessly when the blinds are high enough and tend to play the aggressor rather than the reactor. It gets me in trouble sometimes, but I also have been winning my fair share. I am willing to take a bust out every now and then in return for winning more. Just my style. If I think I have the advantage I am not going to back down. BUT...early in tournaments I don't try to do too much. I try to just pick spots to attack small pots and slowly build a stack. I really don't want to get involved in big pots early and if I am raised and re-raised, I will generally lay it down (especially against a good player or better, against a terrible player if my hand is marginal). The terrible player will go allin and you really have no idea what he is playing. Just not worth it early on. What happens though is that the better players realize that I am attacking small pots with raises and will start to reraise me seeing that I lay down hands with a big re-raise. PERFECT!! You use this against them later on when you actually have a hand and make the same raise you always make and they come back over the top. Now, you have them and will bust them out. This only has to happen once for you to double up your stack in the middle of a tournament. Anyway, not sure if this helps you in any way, but it sure has helped me win and go deeper into tournaments. Also, I stopped fearing getting busted. If I get busted playing "correctly" I can live with it. Here's to getting better and winning more. Hope to see you at some final tables Risky. | ||
