| Entered a $5 UB NLHE tourney with rebuys for an hour. Committed to not rebuying. I did the addon after an hour, and had good stack throughout. I ended up in the money, with an average size stack. 20 paid out, money went up at place 10 - I was out at 12. Here's how. I'm in BB with A10suited. UTG calls the blind, SB calls. (blinds are 1 and 2 K) I think about raising. but instead I check. Flop- 10 6 4 rainbow - SB bets 6K. I figure him for J10 or something like it. Worse case, another A 10 and we split. So I make him commit. I re-raise all in 15,500 He calls. UB shows the cards - he has 6 10 in the hole. Suited, I should say, but still 6 10 - turn and river no helpto anyone, and I'm out. So, should I have raised that blind in the first place? Once in the hand with that bet, Ive got top pair with Ace kicker, no flush fears - did I make a bad re-raise? I don't mind the beat if I made the right call. The one who beat me is currently chip leader by a big margin at the final table. | ||

| Yes, you definetly should have raised preflop. Aggression wins late in tourneys. If you raise it two or three times the BB, I have to assume he would fold. Late in the tourny A10s is a good hand to be aggressive with when noone raising preflop. Its an easy hand to let go of with a big preflop and postflop action. | ||

| ...Unless someone is trapping with a big hand. And with two limpers instead of one, 2-3x the BB might not be enough to get them to lay down anyway, it might need to be a bigger raise, which creates more exposure. I don't disagree with raising, I just don't think it's a "definite," particularly with a hand like ATs that is in trouble if called. Eli on 12. | Its a play I make often and usually end up on the losing end of. Top pair top kicker just never seems good enough in NL games. But I probably would have done the same in that spot. Perhaps going allin in that spot was a better play since you were basically committing yourself. You really don't want him to call there even if you think you have the best hand because you don't want another card to come off. Since you want to win that hand right there, an allin bet is probably the only correct bet. Having said that, I make the same "mistake" all the time and make a bet that you hope is big enough to get him to fold but not big enough to get busted. I think that screams "scared raise" and often I get called and then end up committing all my chips because I was "sure" he was playing a lesser hand. Anyway, thats my two cents. Suffice it to say I usually make that same play but have been on the losing end of it far too many times. | ||

| As i said in my " Stuff i have learned about NL " top pair top kicker at a full table is often not good enough to go all in with ! Chasepoker | ||
