No Limit tournament Lessons learned the hard way, beigs, 12. Nov 2003 07:56 | ||

| Played my first non-UPF No Limit tournament last night. Lessons I learned (please note that these all fall under the uber-heading of "Don't be an Idiot like Beigs."): 1. Know what kind of tournament it is. I entered thinking I was going to get some practice for ten bucks and it turned out to be a rebuy tournament that cost me 50 bucks by the end of the night. 2. Take note of what the prize pool is. This was a satellite tournament where the winners got an entry into UB's Sunday night $200 buy-in, a tournament I wouldn't have wanted to play in even if I won. 3. When a window opens up offering you a rebuy, read what it says. It was the last hand before the rebuy period ended. I was under my starting requirement so I could rebuy. I wanted to only purchase the add on and get an extra 1000 chips. I folded and, rather than wait for the hand to play out, I clicked 'Get Chips.' The window pops up telling me that it will deduct the money from my account. I click okay. At that moment, the hand ends and the tourney goes on break. A window pops up offering me the add-on. In my poker induced coma, I click okay while muttering "I already said yes!". Of course, I'm charged another 10 bucks but at least I get 1000 more chips :) 4. And this is the most important. When someone calls your raise, and you are on the prize bubble, DO NOT BLUFF INTO A COORDINATED FLOP. I have a medium pocket pair. 8s I believe. In middle position, I raise 3x the BB. Button calls me. Flop comes A K J. I'm in limit mode and I bet out (because I raised and I wouldn't want to seem weak, right?). I am raised, of course, by the button who had AKs crippling me and ending my hopes of winning an entry into a tournament I didn't want to play. No worries though. I got a great night's sleep after banging my head on my desk so many times it knocked me unconscious. :) In retrospect, I can laugh at my errors because I know that I have just shared this wisdom with people who already knew better! beigs | ||

| Funny tale, but not funny to live thru it. Could not agree more on betting into a big flop like that with nothing and not the last bettor. Sorry to hear it | ||
