In our game at work, one guys thought while playing Texas Hold'em, that the higher straight starts with an ace. Say one guy has a straight, 56789, and the next guys has a straight 12345, what is the winning hand.

Ace can be considered low. A2345 (wheel) is a five high straight that doesn't beat a 56789 straight. That fucked me up when I first started.

teh one with the 9. The ace can be used for a low and a high straight but when used for the low you have a 5 high straight.

Standard poker rules the 9 high would win, however i have heard of at least one version where the wheel *A-5* would win but its a home like game that wouldnt be played in a casino or online

Rule #1 of Poker
Circumstances alter cases

the strength of a straight is almost always the highest card finishing the straight, 23456 beats A2345, etc
