Time to move up?, spartan51, 11. Nov 2003 13:52

Hi all,

Just would like to get some opinions on my win rate at the $3/$6 level (all online) and if you feel I am ready to play full time at the
$5/$10 tables. I do play 3 tables at once and for the ones that are playing multiple tables, can this be done successfully at the $5/$10 level? (i.e., playing 3 tables of $5/$10 at the same time)

I have played 54,410 hands of $3/$6 with the following results:

1.53 BB/per hour/per table 2.70 BB/per 100 hands

I feel very confident about beating the $3/$6 game, I play a tight, very aggressive style. Here lately it seems, I sometimes become my own worst enemy by becoming too aggressive when I get either heads up or with two opponents, pushing too many marginal hands. This is another reason why I think a move to $5/$10 might be a good thing at this time.

I have played about 1000 hands at $5/$10 and I feel comfortable playing at that level.

Love to hear anyone's input, especially online players who are successfully beating multiple tables of $5/$10 or higher.

Thanks to all who respond.

I would say definitely give it a go, but maybe make the transition in such a way that you are playing 1 5/10 for a while showing a profit, then 2 if you feel comfortable, then 3. Or instead of 3-3/6 go 1-5/10 & 2-3/6, then 2-5/10 & 1-3/6 then finally 3-5/10. Another strategy might be to pick a day or two a week where you'll play 5/10 exclusively, the rest of the time you'd be playing 3/6 until your showing a consistent profit at 5/10 for several hundred hours or more. Everybody talks about moving up like a do or die cut-over to the higher limit, but I don't see any harm in moving up as a gradual transition. Not to mention you might go for a while where the most profitable games are at 3/6 and vice versa.
I don't like playing multiple tables, but I would tend to believe that if a 5/10 generally requires more observation and concentration then playing multiple tables is going to compound that requirement.

I would say you are ready. In my opinion the 510 games are not that much different from the 36 games where I mainly play (party). I don't think the multi table 510 are going to be a problem for you either if you are used to that but I agree somewhat with Denver's advice about perhaps playing 1 510 table at first for a while just to learn who the regular players are at that level and who to avoid when they make that UTG raise. Good luck in your move.

I think you answered your own question. Also why not play just one higher stake table? I think if you did, you'd find you'd play better and would have greater success.

now that youve learned to be tight aggressive its time to learn to be selectivly aggressive. This is where "It Depends" comes into its crowning glory.

I would like to add that by playing three tables you are not taking full advantage of any tables. throttle back to no more than two or you will be missing too much. And use two monitors.
