Table selection at Party, Blade, 9. Nov 2003 14:06 | ||

| Does anyone have a good system for selecting a table at party. I used to play pokerroom where they give % of players seeing flop and avg pot. This made picking a loose passive table fairly easy (high % + low $) but at Party where I now play I am only provided with ang pot. I firmly believe that proper table selection is critical for profitable poker. Any suggestions would be appreciated. | ||

| The games are so soft at party right now you can nearly play them blindfolded and beat them if you know what you are doing. That said I usually get on the waiting list for the top 4 to 5 average pot tables at the limit I am playing and take the first 3 seats that come open. I have played there for nearly 2 years so I know who are the people that have been around for a while and whose games I respect so I can somewhat steer clear of them. I also have a list of very desirable players that I like having at my table so while I am waiting I also look for them (if they are there they are usually in the highest average pot tables anyway so I am on the list:) I would recommend getting some database if you don't have one already as it will also help you keep track of those desirable players because it only takes one of them to make a very good game. Good luck. | ||

| I focus in on the average pot size tables. For 2/4 games I narrow it down to $29-31 average pots tables and then I look at a couple of other factors that I want to see in a game and then I select the ones I want to join. | ||

| I used to play pokerroom all the time (I was the "usual" at the 25-50 games) A huge drawback for serious player like me at partypoker is the lack of a statistic for the % of people who see the flop. At the higher limits there are about 10-20 "pro" players who play 3-6 games at once. I found out who they were and tried to avoid them at my 15-30 shorthanded tables when I started. They include guys like captain_l and KJKJK. Now I know a bit better who the fish are but I still look at the tables with the highest avg pot first. Hope that helps a bit, -Eugene | ||

| What do you use to track players? Is is self written or a commercial product? I track all my sessions for W/L, but StatKing does not track players. I do take notes, but don't really like the note systems on UB and Party. Guinnessman | ||

| Just an addendum to your own criteria and all of the above: I try to steer clear of tables where someone's bankroll indicates they are dominating. Two exceptions: 1) I know the person with the big bankroll and don't have a problem with playing against that person, 2) I can take a seat just to the left of the big bankroll, hence almost always having position on them. | ||

| I play no limit at Party fairly often, and I guess this only applies to No Limit. I like to go to an open table with the highest pot and most people at it, but I check to see the chip stacks of the people before I open the table window. I don't want to sit down where someone has an exceptionally large stack, because most often the high pot is due to their chip bullying. I want to be the chip bully and not the bullied. Other than that, the tables change so much with people coming and going, I just pick an open table with several people and go for it. | ||
