My Thanks to all here..., Ostebovik, 7. Nov 2003 23:55

I want to thank everyone here for their input and advice and challenges.

I just stepped up in levels after working very hard to build an adequate bankroll. Tonight was my second session at this higher level and it started out quite tough. After 2 1/2 hours I was down 26 BB. I pushed back from the table and reviewed my play up to that point.

I found that I had only made 1 bad call on the river and 1 bad bet again on the river. I believe I need to thank this forum and it's contributors for my success.

The main things that kept me from losing more than I could was advice such as "Start fresh each hand regardless of what happened before." and "Bets saved are bets earned." Also, there was an article recently in CP that spoke directly to me during this last session about Tiger Woods and how when he has a bad day he works to keep from turning a 73 into an 83 by playing tough.

By the end of the night I was down 2 BB including toke. I left down but VERY satisfied with my play.

Once again,

Thank you ALL!

Gerard.

Hi Gerard

Great going, keep the tough mentality and keep working on your game. Sounds like you have the right attitude, which is a great start to becoming a great player!

Life is Good :-)

LJH,

Your reply confuses me and the all caps makes it difficult to read. Would you be willing to elaborate?

Thanks.

When you said you only made one bad river call, this leads me to believe that you may have folded a winner or two. One reason novice players seem to stress bad river calls so much is because they can see the bad calls or bets. They can't see the bad folds (unless someone else calls) which are much more costly.
My advice would be to put less emphasis on these single bet mistakes and think more about pots you may have won if only you had called the river, or raised the turn, etc.
