put to much emphasis on strategy / technique when playing hold em? i mean i read a post that said someting similar to this: "should i reraise with 10,A on the button, when the guy to my right raised last hand with 10,5o" ???

of course strategy comes with the game, but i read a lot of questions like the above and i think maybe this person will out think themselves, especially when its over something minute.

good players change gears, set traps, limp in, check /raise that said isnt it better not to over analyze every raise/check/hair color/eye color?

what say you guys?

Poker is an information game. the more info you have, the better your decisions will be and the more money you'll make. I don't think you can over analyize a situation if you understand the concepts and know how to apply them.

some situations may not be worth analyizing due to the time it takes versus the potential reward ( i think this is what you're getting at). But it does not hurt to go thought the motions on any situation, so that you can better understand the thought process needed to make correct decisions.

what happened to me was i was playing online and long story short, i folded 3Q's after the river, b/c i see Xc, Q, Xc ,Xc, A on the board and he bet 400 after the tun and another 400 after the river (tourney chips).

so i lose out to a big pot b/c i think this guy has a flush when he had a pair of aces.........wtf....guess i gave him too much credit and didnt plkow this guy down....

Not enough specifics to make suggestions, the biggest part of a situation like that is chip stacks. You want to be careful of scary boards if you think you have the best hand. Trip queens w/ a 2 flush on board, don't let him string you along w/ 400 bets, if he wants to draw to a flush, make him pay at the flop, you might also get an A to call or a flush chaser to call.

It also depends what stage of the tourney you're in. Since you folded to 400 chips I assume it was relatively early, or you were shortstacked. Either way, you need to make strong moves if you want to win.

Betters/raisers have 2 ways to win the pot, their opponent can fold, or they can showdown the best hand. Callers have only one way to win, they MUST showdown the best hand. Don't be a caller/folder!

I'd rather overanalyze then not analyze enough, however to your original point, overanalyzing a play AT the table might not be the best idea, but posting in a forum later to see how others think is an awesome way to get a new perspective...
