One of my first lessons at the B&M craps table was to watch your chips because there were people who would attempt to steal them right out from under your nose. Stroll over to the poker room, however, and you see players getting up, stretching their legs, and even walking away, with their chips still on the table. I understand that this reserves your place at the table and that the dealer supposedly will watch them, but is this safe? Has anyone ever come back to a shorter stack than they left? If so, what did you do?

One time when i was just sitting down into a game the seat on my right was empty but there was a stack of chips on the table.

After a few hands an elderly man came down and sat at my side. after being dealt into 2 or 3 hands (but not playing any) he realized he was at the wrong table! and got up and left!

When the player who was supposed to be sitting there came back, he was livid. He yelled at everyone and demand to see the video tapes of what happened.

No harm came from it, but would have been pretty easy for the old guy to blow away some of the player's chips. I've always wondered what the casino would have done if the player lost or gained chips.

I can understand the dealer not knowing the old guy wasn't the right player (there could have been a dealer push), but how is it that none of the other players said anything? I'd be pretty livid too.

SEE YOU AT THE TAJ or TROPICANA.

This may sound fishy but i was at the taj a few days ago , playing low limit and i like to keep my chips to the right of me so it is comfortable to look at my cards with out streching( i am in seat 2). In seat one is a player with about 300$ in chips , about 200 in reds and 100 in whites.

Now befor i get up i like to count my chips so know where i am at and how much i have befor not looking at them for 30 mins. I counted 105 when i got back there was and i know for sure that the player to my right snagged a 20$ stack of whites befor he left. I know for sure, this of course made me a little up-set so cashed in and went somplace else. Being this has ever happened to me i didnt know what to say or do .

Its not the fact that it is 20 bucks gone its the fact that i am playing with probably still playing with some other scumbag who likes to snag chips from you on your break when he is collecting his. So I got up and went to the Borgata , witch i may say is very nice to play in.

i have played in las vegas (and many other casinos) for quite a few years and have never had a single chip stolen from my stack while i was away from the table. Now, i keep mine stacked neatly in 20's, rather than scattered all over the place, so i do not claim it has never happened to others.
Maybe poker players are more honorable than "gamblers" who shoot craps, play roulette, or play blackjack.

I had never seen or heard of anyone having problems with their chips while away until a few days ago. A guy was playing 2-4 and got up for a bit and left behind about $70 in chips. While he was gone two "young men" (as an elderly player at my table described the 30 something yearold guys to me , I'm 21 btw, lol) ran into the cardroom room, grabbed the guys chips and ran out! I had never seen anything like it. There was a lot of commotion and while they got the guys on tape, none of the security gaurds were able to grab them. But even more bizarre was that about 20 minutes later one of them came back in with about $40 in chips to try to cash them out! The cashier recognised him and asked him to hang on a sec, which he did!!, and the security guys came over and nabbed him.
I had never seen anything like it and can't even comprehend what was going on in the heads of those guys.
And even more odd was that I think they were let go with no charge. The guy whose chips got stolen just started laughing when he found out what happened and said that he didn't want to press charges. I realize that it wasn't a tremendous amount of money, but still... I'd be pretty pissed if someone just ran over a grabbed a bunch of my money. Maybe he just felt sorry for how stupid the guys were. Did the guys not realize that cardrooms have cameras?
