I got a lesson in table selection last night.

Playing on a small online site, where usually the LL games are full of fish, so I sat down at a table as usual and started playing my normal game. I'm used to getting called to the river by players with anything so I usually come out betting with good hands and make good money that way.

After a while I noticed that my bets got a lot more respect and people where folding if they didn't have at least top pair when I bet out and the pre-flop limping was a lot less than I'm used to.

I started paying attention to the chat going on (which was a lot) and I figured out that there was at least 4 people from 2+2 at the table. Apparently they where using the site for some "tournament" (who could make the most money with a specified starting bankroll) and the whole site was buzzing with 2+2 people.

After this I tightened up considerably, but I already lost 20 BB and could just keep myself even after that.

So, lesson learned, make sure that the table you sit down at is what you expect, don't take things for granted.....

That is so true magnus. I hate it when I misread table composition and find out I'm only getting action from hands that can beat me. I think the biggest advantage experienced players have is that they have better judgement for the Value of hands. But the Value of hands changes according to table composition and if I misread the table I lose that advantage.
