When to allow draws, Aisthesis, 5. Nov 2003 11:13 | ||

| In NL holdem, I have a fairly simplistic basic bet structure when I flop high pair or better--the options are: 1) check (for that I need at least A pair, and there can't be any clear draws out there), 2) bet 1/2 the pot (my standard bet with high pair if I want callers), 3) bet pot (my standard bet if I want everyone to fold). Probably way too simplistic, but it seems to work reasonably well for me. But it's not always easy to decide particularly between options 2 and 3. Example: I'm in LP with KJo and 4 others in the game. Flop shows Kc 9d 4c, hence possible flush draw for some. If everyone checks to me, I'd generally go ahead and bet pot in this situation. Correct? With 3 or fewer opponents I'd be more likely to go down toward 1/2 pot. But if we substitue Td or Qd for 9d, I'd probably bet full pot even with 3 players because now the straight draw comes into play (even though I do have one of the jacks). And with 4 or more opponents I'd also probably bet pot even with Jd rather than 9d on the flop--with some regrets because I hate scaring everyone off with 2 pair in my hand, but I'd rather take it down right here rather than risk letting someone draw flush or straight. And one final variation: if the flop were the same cards but rainbow, I'd go with betting 1/2 the pot. Does that sound about right to people here? Or am I worrying too much or too little about allowing draws? | ||
