Value of middle pair in a 3-way, Aisthesis, 5. Nov 2003 10:41

Is middle pair on the flop something that one should normally bet in a 3-way? Generally, I'll bet any pair at all heads-up, and I'll only bet high pair when 4 or more players are in (except in LP).
Just as an example: I have J9o in BB, 1 limper in MP, 1 limper in LP, both fairly loose--let's say I know I can expect K8 or better from both of them.
Flop comes A92. Should I normally bet here or just leave it alone? On purely random hands there would only be somewhere around a 20-25% chance that someone has the ace, but I guess since the hands aren't random it may be getting up close to 50%. Probably best to just leave this one alone and fold if anyone bets?

What kind of players would you need in order to bet it?

Your table image has a lot to do with that play, sometimes I bet and they fold if they missed, it is usually because i'm running good, and they should be scared.

From what you guys are saying, I'm think this is really more of a semi-bluff than anything else. If the 2 limpers are really loose in seeing the flop (reducing probability they have the A), the pair might have actual value in my example, hence become more bettable.
And indeed my table image is going to be a big factor. The 9 pair becomes quite bettable if the opponents are going to assume I have the A (albeit probably lowish kicker since I just checked from BB) and fold if they don't have one themselves.
