Who should have what blind?, TKarrde, 5. Nov 2003 10:05 | ||

| A lot of the guys I play poker with have started hosting more poker tournaments rather than ring games. I'm usually the most educated of the bunch regarding poker and how things are done (which isn't saying much!) One thing I seem to mess up about once every tournament is this: Player A is on the button. Player B is the SB. Player C is the BB. And player D is UTG. If Player C busts out, what happens? Does Player B become the button and D becomes the BB? This is what I have done and it doesn't work out. or Does Player A move to the button, Player D becomes the SB, and Player E becomes the BB. Which doesn't seem fair as Player D misses the Big Blind. I think one thing I tried was having both player D and E post a Big Blind. Next hand D is the Dealer and E is the SB. That way D only misses the SB. Thanks for any help on getting this straight. TKarrde | ||

| If I remember correctly, if the BB busts out, the player who would then be the BB if he hadn't (player directly to the left) becomes the BB and there is no small blind. Example: Seat 1: button Seat 2: SB Seat 3: BB Seat 4: UTG Seat 5-9: normal position If seat 3 busts, then on the next hand it is this Seat 1: LP Seat 2: Button Seat 3: EMPTY Seat 4: BB Seat 5: UTG Seat 6-9: Normal This is so nobody misses thier turn to post the BB. I'm not sure the rationale behind it either :( | ||

| if i remember correctly *ancient history here like 10+ years* at least one club would move the button to the SB then have the next 2 players post BB's, this allows the button to always move yet doesnt give the button a massive edge *having only one blind your betting against* Rule #1 of Poker Circumstances alter cases Rule #2 NEVER forget rule #1 | ||

| at my home game we play with a dead blind or button, keep the rotation moving like normal leave a gap where the missing person was seated. when it comes down to heads up and it doesn't work out natural, button becomes the big blind because it is generally more action oriented that way, there may or may not be a sb or bb when it comes to heads up the first hand to keep it fair on paying the blinds. | ||

| I also get confused with this but It seems fair to have an empty sb when the BB busts the hand before. What do you do when the sb busts out? Does the button remain empty essential giving the last button the button again or does the button move to the previous BB? | ||

| The general idea is that no one will ever miss a blind, and no one will ever post a blind twice...if that means one hand doesn't have a small blind, oh well, or some cases someone will have the button twice in a row, again, oh well. The important part is that the blinds are applied fairly and evenly.... Just think of it logically from that stand point. Progress the BB to the left once, and the SB as well, as long as it doesn't mean someone getting it twice in a row. If they would, then there is no SB that round. If UTG gets busted out, well UTG+1 is now the BB. You will always have a BB. | ||
