| I'm a beginner who needs advice on a hand I played last night. I've been doing okay but I tend to be intimidated by big bets. It was a 10 player $5 SNG. Blinds were 10/20. I was in first position and everyone called. I had 55. The flop was 523. I had $750. I bet the pot $180) expecting everyone to fold. Everyone folded but the guy on the button. He put me all in. He was the table chip leader with $2000. After evaluating the situation I called. I figured him for one of the following: a straight, a set of his own but lower than mine, 2 pair hoping for a full house and a chance to put a player out, or a stone cold bluff. We turned over our cards and he had 46o. His had held up and I was out. I really beat myself up over this. Should I have called this bet? | ||

| Here's a better question- if you had 55 UTG, why didn't you make a raise pre-flop to keep the 64o out (not that he should have played it for one bet). Consider that any hand worth playing in NL is worth raising with. 55 is a raise or a fold, and there are good arguments for both actions. Once on the flop, you have to call with top set, but you could have done more to prevent being in a situation where you have no idea what someone else could have. Eli on 5.
