Pokertracker/Assessing opponents, Aisthesis, 5. Nov 2003 02:25

After Roy Cooke's recent post asking for feedback on pokertracker, I started thinking more about one of the features that I really like and use but feel could be significantly improved: Immediate brief assessments of my opponents.
Currently, I use the icons ("fishy," "good player," "monster," etc.) as well as the comments section to get a little more detail.
I also emailed the guy who wrote the program about possible changes there, and he wrote back that this wouldn't be hard to do and also has several ideas of his own in the works.
Anyhow, with all this in mind, I was wondering what others think about the most important "categories" to use for a quick assessment of an opponent.
My list at the moment looks something like this:
1) tight-aggressive
2) tight-passive
3) loose-aggressive
4) loose-passive
5) varies
Several of these categories can also (in my view anyway) go either way on the scale of "fish" to "good player." Loose-aggressive is the most obvious, as sometimes it's easy to win lots of money off them, once I figure out what they're doing, and sometimes, if they're clever about it, they are very hard nuts to crack and extremely dangerous. Tight-passive can also go either way to some extent (at least for me).
Another aspect that's important to me in observing players is whether they're prone to call a lot in the hope of getting their (sometimes longshot) draws or whether they're more prone to fold easily even if they have some good draws left but haven't made their hands on the flop.
Anyhow, I'm not sure yet exactly what the best way would be to organize such an evaluation system for easy use on the poker tracker program but was wondering what others think as to the most useful list of categories for assessing other players.
