Busted out on this hand!, Eman, 4. Nov 2003 08:37

Last night $30 buy in NLHE tourney on UB (200 players)
I made it throught the first break and was in 30th place with about 90 players left. I couldnt get any hands remotely good enough to play. I managed to doubled up just before the break with AA that I slowplayed, and that was about it. After the break - rags, rags, rags, rags, best hand I saw was pocket 33s and 44s which I folded preflop anyway cause I was UTG both times. Neither of the flops completed my set anyway, so i was happy. Still rags rags... made a semibluff bet with 109s with four to a flush and a gut shot straight, no callers and won that pot. But i was still dwindiling (blinds 100/200) I got dealt 22 in BB and three callers. I had only about 1000 chips left.
FLop comes: 3 2 J rainbow.
I check in hopes of a trap check raise.
EP bets 200, MP fold, LP call.
I go all in with my set.
EP calls, LP folds.
EP shows 33 for a higher set than mine.
I bust out in 50th.

Would most of you put all your money in on duck set????

Yes, in a heartbeat. There's not much you can do to avoid going broke when someone has a higher set and you only have 5 blinds left. Chalk it up to "that's poker" and good luck in the next one.

With that flop in your chip position? In a heartbeat. Hopefully the guy has KQ or AJ or something like that and you can double thtough. Think of it this way...if there is an 11% chance that you will flop a set, what are the chances that another player will too? At best, the chances are 2% and probably lower with only 1 other player in the pot (as he is 222:1 of having any pair in his hand). Good all-in...bad result, and as Lee said "That's poker".

My "heartbeat" too. You can't expect better opportunities given your situation chip-wise.

...Yes. With everything considered, it's a no-brainer! Win or lose, you made the correct decision.
