| I agree.. I mean how many times can you watch: -Phil Ivey make fun of the indian guys shirt. -Phil Hellmuth and Sam Grizzle go at it (that was entertainting though) -Phil Hellmuth say he knew Lester had Jacks...(who cares you lost the hand anyway) -watch Amir Vahedi make the worst ever move in poker history. -and who the hell wants to see Chris "lucky" Moneymaker catch all those cards and pump his fist and scream. I had enough of the 2003 WSOP. Why dont theyshow older WSOP ...maybe on ESPN classic or something. Id like to watch Ungar Brunson Chang and other greats go at it.... | ||

| thats what i think and i especially agree about moneymaker. the guy won, he had good cards just as everyone needs to win a tournament with a thousand players but the fact that he held the huge hands when the other players held big hands themselves. killes me, you know hes struttin around loving himself thniking he cant beat everyone. when i get the money to play in the big one i hope i catch aces ak and ace whatever everytime. | ||

| I think my favorite part was watching Robert Varykoni flounder around like a fish on the first day of the tournament, before being summarily discharged with prejudice. I didn't think it was possible for a player to hire a poker coach and actually get WORSE. The fact that the guy won in 2002 (and Moneymaker won in 2003) makes me wonder if entering the WSP isn't the equivalent of pulling the handle on a slot machine. And how many times can Phil Ivey take a bad beat? Man, that guy seems to take some tough losses. | ||

| I agree we should be seeing other championships always doing an infomercial or so but it was those moments were interesting. The thing with Phil H. and Grizzle is always fun to watch. Actually Ivey and Deeb was fun too, everything that came out of Deeb's mouth was f this, f that. I'd like to see either of these ones: 87-89 championships where chan won twice and hellmuth picked up the 89 title. | ||

| I totally agree too. In fact I've probably just about covered every episode for WSOP 2003 by now. I'd be very interested to see some of the more dated ones. For instance the one where Hellmuth wins in '89(?) with the black 9s(9-9) he always mentions. Here we have weekly poker "fluff" with this Clebrity Poker Showdown stuff where the highlight is undressing most of the women with my eyes or waiting for the one funny guy with the eye glasses to light his cigar up already! It's certainly not for the moves they make. A lot of it is pretty unlearned. DMJ | ||

| Yes you are right, but i did tape every single day that was showen on Espn. From watching the tapes i think Howard Lederer gave me the most tips when he was shown on Tv, witch was 70% of the time. Every other hand i saw was either an all in or a damb rounders info-mercial hahahah. I know they edit tapes but come on ESPN it got realy stupid. I have 2002 espn coverage on tape and they showed twice as many hands and didnt show one info-mercial. 2003 on the other hand you cant even see 2 straight hands with out some crap in the middle. Or the 2 morons talking about the players like its a basball game. Lon Anderson is cool , but the other guy who sounds like hes on z100 has to go..........BUT I STILL LOVE IT. but i still pop it in to watch Phill act like a little baby . | ||

| Hi MrTeLLnj I have a serious request/proposition for you; By living in Europe (Norway, to be exact), I'm unfortunately not able to view any of the wsop/wpt action that get televised in the us. I know they sell a complete series on DVD of the last series, but then I'd get a zone problem (different zones for europe and the us. same thing for VHS, but my VCR reads NTSC in addition to PAL). So, how much would I be in for ($) if you'd be so kind to lend me your tapes for a couple of weeks? (I'd pay for postage both ways in addition of course) Please leave a msg if at all interested and we could work out the details over msn, email or the likes. | ||

| From the parts I saw, I agree fully with you guys about the commentary as well as the selection shown on espn. But I beg to differ with regard to Moneymaker, who in my opinion made a number of very good plays to win the thing. Nobody's going to win it without some lucky breaks, too, in my opinion, but he's obviously an extremely strong player and could never have made it through that many tournament hands against that field on the basis of luck. On a completely different note, is there any way to get back tapes or DVD's on some of these, preferably showing all hands played at least at the final table(s)? | ||

| My 2 cents for the best one that I have seen on ESPN, and I only saw it one time, was the one where Stuie "The Kid" Unger won it for the last time. I mean it was amzing watching him play. The guy was a genious when it came to cards. I thought it was funny how it was outside and it was like 110 degrees and everyone was sweating balls out there. Makes it hard to tell if the guy is sweating cause he is bluffing or just the piercing sun on his back. One of the best hands that I saw though was when Scotty Ngyuen won against McBride. The board comes a full house and scooty has the four o kind. He laughs and says, "If you call, it's all over baby." Brought a smile to my face. P.S. I cant wait to see the movie too. | ||

| Mark Gregorich is obviously a top-notch poker player as well. But I don't see why thinking of Chris Moneymaker as just some Joe who got lucky is supposed to make him feel better about the tournament. In my opinion, anyway, there were a number of players in there whose skills gave them a realistic shot at winning the thing. Gregorich was certainly one, as were several others who got knocked out before getting to the final table. I think all of these guys know quite well that, as many risks as you have to take to play successfully in a tournament like that, all skill can do is give you the best odds of winning it. Even if it were possible to objectively identify the "most skillful" player, I'd be really surprized if that person had as much as a 10% chance at winning in that field. Whether or not Moneymaker was really the "most skillful" is also impossible to say, but I don't think he could have taken 1st in the tournament without playing extremely good poker throughout a large number of really gruelling and difficult hands. | ||

| thanks for all the replys so far. I agree on most parts. I think moneymaker gets probably too much crap. the guy can play sure, and we are all probbaly jealous because he got to play it and we didnt. also, the only way a guy like him was going to win it against these guys was to make these kind of plays. as far as ungar goes, any chance to seem him play is a treat. | ||

| Varkonyi got those hands televised, you didn't see the other 5 days worth of poker in which he likely played quite well. Not sure what you mean by the Moneymaker comment, are you implying that Varkonyi somehow doesn't play poker? Eli on 4.
