| Reading some of the posts from this past week it looks like everyone’s had a rough time of it lately. I am no exception. Played a high number of SNG tournaments this weekend--maybe 12 over three days. Started out well—2nd, 2nd and 3rd. A good start to a long weekend. Then the string comes—out, out, out, out, out, out, out, out. Mostly one or two out of the money, but a couple VERY early on. And the vast majority of the beats are on the River. The River is not my friend anymore, and has decided to not only rip my heart out, but throw it—along with my bankroll—down the crapper. My last tournament of the weekend last night, with four players left, proved that I need to take some time off. I get dealt AA on the button. EP calls, I raise. SB and BB fold, EP raises back. I push all in, and he turns over JJ. Flop comes . . . 10-3-8 Nothing dangerous, and no help to either of us. Turn comes . . . 8 Still not sweating it. No flush, no straight and this guy has two outs. River comes . . . J I stare in amazement and utter confusion. Why do the poker Gods hate me? Why would they allow my aces to be cracked so close to the money, and after such a long losing streak? Just then I hear the familiar ‘pop’ of the chat window. I look down. Message is from the guy who just busted me. It says: “Looks like your pocket rockets didn’t hold up, pal.” After spending 10 minutes flip-flopping between playing another game or tracking this smartass down and beating him silly, I decided to go to bed. Still not convinced it was the right move. But either way, I’m burned out. | ||
