For me, there are two vital things to being successful in SnG's. One is, avoiding anything resembling a coin flip for a large chunk of your chips early in the tourney. Two, avoiding the pre-flop all-in anytime early in the tourney unless of course you KNOW you are a huge favorite. These are just some thoughts I came across as I've been having some success at these lately. Just curious what other players think are some important aspects of playing these tourneys.

I think one of the more important aspects is table image. People come in and out of ring games at dizzying rates (at least in my experience - perhaps this is different in higher limit play), and multi-table tournaments have tables being broken up and players moved to other tables.
Thus, SNGs are the games where table image is a big deal. It can be created, maintained, and changed as the game goes along. Plus, as the blinds escalate table image comes even more into play. For instance, super tight players can change gears and loosen up a little, raising when the blinds are high, and players will respect them and fold remembering their tight table image.
