This going to sound like nit picking but Im just wondering if there is any way to win more off of this hand. Im playing a very passive $2/$4 table. Its my last hand before I have to go to work so I decide to limp UTG with QJ. Player to my left limps (who I have notes on and he is very bad), cutoff limps and BB checks. Flop comes QQJ with 2 clubs. Now of course Im thinking how can I maximize this monster. I check, my weak neighbor bets, the other 2 players fold. I call. Turn is the 8c (3 clubs now). Im hoping he hit his flush and I check again (if the 3rd club hadnt come, I wouldve bet). He bets, I raise, he reraises (excellent he hit the flush). Heres the question. Should I cap it here or let him think hes ahead and just call in hopes of another round of bets and raises at the river? I capped it at the turn. River was another blank. I bet and he only called. I won when he turned over K2 of clubs. Of course I was thinking "thats what you get for playing K2 of clubs". So if I hadnt capped it do you think I couldve gotten more out of him at the river or am I just getting greedy (probably).

Greed is good.

Cap the turn while you can and hope he wants a raising war.

I think you did well. If you had only called his 3-bet, do you think your opponent would have viewed it as a sign of weakness (and thus felt he should raise the river with the non-nut flush)? Highly doubtful, IMO.

Once he starts betting fast and furious, keep it going. He's obviously got confidence in his hand. So make him pay!

Well, there are 2 ways to get more money out of him from the position when you have to make the decision:

(1) Call the 3 bet. Then what? You have to act first, right? Well, if you check, he may check it down. If you bet, he will call, raise or fold. Did you show a lot of weakness that he is sure to bet if you check? Probably. So, you check raise him.

Total large bets: 5. (3 on the turn, 2 on the river) BUT, you may only get 3. (3 on turn, none on river)

(2) Cap the turn. Again, you could check on the river, but you would have to be on crack to bet into a guy who capped the turn with a 3 flush on board after a blank falls, right? So, you pretty much have to bet out and hope he raises.

Worst case scenario = 4 bets (or he folds the turn and you win. I'd rather win a smaller pot then lose a bigger one. You've been rivered in your life, right? [I know, not really likely here, but still...., what if he holds AA or AQ clubs and an A falls?] Better case scenario = 5 bets (what happened here). Best case scenario = 7+ bets (where he raises back at you on the river after putting down his crack pipe)

Of course, maybe I'm on crack, but it seems like capping the turn is the long run best play.

I think the only way to get more out of him is to call the turn, after a long delay, hoping that he thinks you just realized a 3rd club had fallen.

If it doesn't work, you've lost 1 bb, from the bet-call river scenario. If it works, he'll raise your bet on the river (that matches your raise on the turn) AND your 3bet might get called.

Either way, you're talking 1 big bet, the pot is big enough already......and you're on your way to your other money-making job!!

Even if you just call the three-bet and checkraise the river, you will still only be getting two more bets as it is unlesshe is an idiot who will 3-bet your river checkraise. So, might as well cap the turn, bet the river and let him raise if his stupidity overcomes him.
